Now most of you know that Joboo loves me some small school ball. And that I keep an eye out for up & coming talent. With that in mind, I headed to Sarcoxie last night to catch the Everton Lady Tigers and Jessica Holland. She of the triple double to start the season. I arrived a little late and by the time I got settled in, Everton was already down by double digits. But they started to hit some shots, applied the press, and started to chip away at the lead. Holland at 5′ 9″ had a few inches on the Sarcoxie guards and decent speed, allowing her to go inside and outside pretty confidently. Sarcoxie lead 24-18 at the half and I had Holland for 8 points in the time I had been watching.
In the second half, foul trouble and an injury to starter Linsey Denney kept Everton from throwing the pressure back on. But sophomore Paige Limpus hit for 9 second half points to help them pull within 2 starting the fourth. In the final frame, Sarcoxie’s solid backcourt took care of the ball, took advantage of the Everton foul trouble, and started penetrating to score. Holland had 9 more in the second half, but the Lady Bears got scoring from 5 different players to finish with the 47-37 win. No seniors on Everton’s squad and there is some potential there. Keep an eye on them as the year moves along, and next year.
In other action Mt. Vernon used a early fourth quarter run to seal their win over Fair Grove 64-38. Richland’s Kylie Eldredge tossed in 10 threes as Richland won 74-38 over Licking. And Ash Grove picked up a good win over Clever despite 20 points apiece from both Bridget and Michaela Hanafin.

Mt. Vernon is the real deal, fast and big. They turned the tables on FG last night from last year. Look for them to go a long way this year and next.
Joboo, any score from the Osceola, Fair Play girls game? You should e-mail Kim Wohlers at Osceola kwohlers@osceola.k12.mo.us and tell her to get on the stick and start sending you scores. I say this because I used to work with her
I don’t have a Fair Play/Osecola score, or a Golden City/Miller score from last night.
And I wouldn’t even begin to tell Coach Wohlers to get on the stick. I’m sure she’d take it well, but she’s got enough on her plate. She doesn’t deserve to be hassled by the likes of me.
A little off subject but I have a question. Last week I attended a local boys game and noticed one of the players played all 4 quarters of the JV game and also played 2 quarters of Varsity. Didn’t there used to be a rule that a player could only play 5 quarters per night or event?
I don’t have my rulebook with me at the moment. But as far as I know, the 5 quarter rule still stands. I’ll double check and see if there may be circumstances that allow an exception.
I have not seen the Miller girls score against Golden City posted anywhere, including the joplin or springfield papers. I have a feeling it is because the miller coach is a little embarrased about running up a big score 98-17. I felt sorry for the golden city girls and want to apologize. I’m sure most of the miller fans that were in attendance feel the same way.
