    2008 Football Preview Viewing Guide

    By Joboo | August 28, 2008

OK. I’ve told you all about the teams, the conferences, and made predictions for all of them. To wrap up our preview for this year, here’s my picks for district champions, top players, rivalry games, and other games to watch.

    DISTRICT CHAMPS & RUNNERS-UP

    Class 1

    Class 2

    Class 3

    Class 4

    Class 5

    Class 6

    TOP 10 PLAYERS TO WATCH

    1. Trey Derryberry, QB - Carthage
    2. Caleb Schaffitzel, RB - Fair Grove
    3. Alex Sanders, WR - Glendale
    4. Mack Kyle, QB - Webb City
    5. Tyler Evans, OL - Strafford
    6. Mikael Falls-Cooper, RB - Hillcrest
    7. Cody Rosier, DE - Buffalo
    8. Kevin Redmon, QB - Glendale
    9. B.J. Ray, DB - Waynesville
    10. Cody Holland, OL - Neosho

    RIVALRY GAMES

    1. Aurora/Mt Vernon - It doesn’t get any more intense than this.
    2. Nixa/Ozark - True rivalry in that anyone can win every game.
    3. Glendale/Kickapoo - South side rivals always fun to watch.
    4. Camdenton/Waynesville - Not as heralded but always a great battle.

TOP 10 GAMES OF THE YEAR

    1. Webb City at Harrisonville, Aug 29 - Enough said.
    2. Webb City at Carthage, Oct 17 - Cardinals motivated by last year’s playoff loss.
    3. Seneca at Monett, Oct 30 - Should be for the Big 8 and district titles.
    4. Mountain Grove at Rogersville, Oct 17 - The Battle of Hwy 60 has never been bigger.
    5. Ozark at Glendale, Oct 10 - Look for a high scoring shootout.
    6. Bolivar at Rogersville, Sept 12 - Could decide the COC Small School title.
    7. Cabool at Miller, Oct 24 - Clash of this years class 1 titans.
    8. Bolivar at Mountain Grove, Oct 3 - Two of the areas best over the last few years.
    9. Strafford at Fair Grove, Oct 24 - Caleb Schaffitzel’s finest hour, or the Indians?
    10. Monett at Marshfield, Sept 5 - A great chance to see Monett’s defense in action.

Guess your prediction on Rogersville vs Mountain Grove is kinda funny now that The Grove (as they like to be called) just beat Bolivar. Seriously what was you thinking when you picked Rogersville over Mountain Grove??? Oh yea I just read that Frisco league stuff. Got it.

Kinda funny as in Mountain Grove losing to class 1 Thayer or kinda funny as in ‘The Grove’ fans throwing stuff at the Bolivar players and coaches? That’s why you play the games.

But seriously, the Panthers can definitely claim the better season so far. The win over Bolivar is huge. On the other hand, Rogersville has only lost by 3 to Branson and 7 to Bolivar. Rogersville may not win the district, but anyone who thinks they have no chance to win at home against Mountain Grove must be a Panther fan. (Not that there’s anything wrong with that.)
