2008 Mid-Lakes Football Predictions
By Joboo | August 28, 2008
A three-way title chase is shaping up this year in the Mid-Lakes Conference. And a traditional power may be about to take some lumps.
| Team | record | conf record |
| Stockton | 9-1 | 5-1 |
| Fair Grove | 8-2 | 5-1 |
| Strafford | 8-2 | 5-1 |
| AshGrove | 6-4 | 3-3 |
| Marionville | 3-7 | 2-4 |
| Pleasant Hope | 1-9 | 1-5 |
| Skyline | 1-9 | 0-6 |
Any of the top three teams can win the conference this year. Working through the schedule, I have Stockton losing at Strafford, Strafford losing at Fair Grove, and the Eagles losing at Stockton to force a tri-championship. Stockton needs some players to mature quickly in the first 3 games before facing Strafford. I think they have the line strength and enough defense to play through the learning process. Strafford brings nine returning defensive starters and Tyler Evans to pave the way for the offense. I do have their Sept. 26 game with Liberty marked as an upset special. Fair Grove loses only 5 starters from last year. That should set the table nicely for all-Ozarks running back Caleb Schaffitzel to have an even bigger year. Ash Grove is very much a potential spoiler to the party this year. They have a lot of young talent and will be capable of taking down anyone who overlooks them. With a brand new coach and only 2 returning offensive starters, Marionville seems set to receive some payback this year. Pleasant Hope and Skyline both seem to be set to struggle this year. But all hope is not lost. The Pirates have been on a rigorous off season conditioning program that reportedly is yielding big results. And Skyline returns 8 defensive starters. Anything can happen and this year in the Mid-Lakes, it probably will.
- Coach of the year - Paul Carney, Stockton
- Offensive player of the year - Caleb Schaffitzel, Fair Grove
- Defensive player of the year - Brandon Verfurth, Marionville
