2008 Spring River Valley Football Predictions

    By Joboo | August 28, 2008

In the Spring River Valley (that sounds like a commercial for bottled water) a potential state challenger leads the way.

    Team record conf record
    Miller 9-1 6-1
    Pierce City 7-3 6-1
    Lockwood 8-2 5-2
    Liberal 7-3 5-2
    Sarcoxie 5-5 3-4
    Greenfield 4-6 2-5
    Jasper 2-8 1-6
    Diamond 0-10 0-7

Miller return everyone and the kitchen sink. Not only are they returning all but one starter from last years 7-3 squad including QB Justin Jack, they also get back RB Spencer Goodman who missed all of last year after rushing for over 1,500 yards and 19 TDs his sophomore year.  Pierce City is the only squad I can see putting a blemish on them.  The Eagles have some holes to fill on the line but they have some decent size coming up that should allow them to.  Lockwood also has to fill big shoes due to the departures of Logan Cornish, Landon Eggerman, and 14 other starters.  But they also have the talent to do that.  If either of these two stumble with their replacements, look for Liberal of Sarcoxie to try to step up.  Liberal should be more than capable of doing just that and should have a very solid year.  They have a strong senior class and are aiming for their first playoff visit since 98.  Sarcoxie improved by 2 wins last year but lost half of their starters.  They should be able to maintain, but don’t look for any more improvement this year.  Greenfield could also make a move up as they have a strong group of returning players.  We’ll know quickly as they face Pierce City and Miller back to back in weeks two and three.  Jasper will be slightly improved over last year, but wins will still be hard to come by.  And Diamond only returns 5 seniors from last years 0-10 team.
