2009 State Volleyball – Final Day

And to wrap it all up, Rogersville took 3rd place in class 3 with a 25-18,25-13 sweep of Cape Girardeau Notre Dame.  Chloe Blount leads the effort with 11 kills as the Wildcats easily avenge their split at the hands of Notre Dame from the previous day that kept them from the title game.

So four of the five Ozarks teams in Kansas City end their weekend with a win.  Three third place finishes, a second place, and one state championship.  Not bad at all.  Now only 9 months until practice starts again.

6:50 PM - The Ozark Lady Tigers are Missouri class 4 state champions!  After splitting a thrilling first two sets with Blue Springs, Ozark dominated the decisive third set 25-17 to win their first state title in their second trip to the final four.  Jade Hayes lays down 19 kills and gets 17 digs, Meghan Stacy has 10 kills, and Sydney Potts serves up 36 assists to lead Ozark to the win.  Ozark won the first set in a titanic battle 28-26 before letting Blue Springs back into it as they won the second set 25-22.  But Ozark stayed strong and the wheels came off for Blue Springs in the final set as they committed 14 errors in the final frame to only 5 for Ozark. A great season for Ozark ends with a 34-3-3 record and a state championship.  Congratulations to Ozark!   You’ve done us proud.

4:30 PM – Classes 1 & 2 have finished up and not a bad day for the area teams.  Winona falls short of a state title taking second as they lost to Lesterville 25-23, 25-15.  Tiffany Sullivan had 14 kills for the Wildcats but Lesterville’s Taylor Cook continued her strong play from yesterday finishing with 18 kills to lead Lesterville to the title.

Osceola end on a high note winning a thrilling three set match against KC Lutheran.  The Lady Indians took the first set 27-25 but Lutheran rallied to tie the match winning the second set 25-18.  But Osceola wasn’t to be denied as Meghan Schrock’s defense and Alexis Self’s setting helped them prevail in the final set 25-21 and win third place.  Shrock finished with 22 digs, while Self registered 15 digs of her own to go with 27 assists.  The Lady Indians finish a fins season at 24-8-5.

And in class 2, College Heights also brought home the third place trophy as they swept Maryville 25-22, 29-27.  Missy Sterling put up 15 assists for the Cougars as they top off their first trip to the final four with a third place trophy.

Ozark is playing for the state title right now.  With Rogersville going for third place later tonight.  We’ll update as we get results.
