Boliver-Berkeley semi-final preview

Mizzou Arena, Columbia - 10:45 AM
- #1 Bolivar (27-2) vs #2 Berkeley (26-3)
Bolivar’s game plan on the offensive end remains the same. Let Casey Garrison do her thing, which always includes getting her teammates involved if possible, & get timely contributions from the likes of Crystal Guiot & Rachel Sawyer. Today, they’re going to find a team that can put the defensive clamps on a team but has also had a high point output of 102 this year. Berkeley is similar to Marshfield & Kickapoo in that they have a number of scoring options. They are led by guard Meghan Lewis at 18.1 ppg. She is 3 point threat having hit 47 on the year. Next is guard Markeita Baker at 12.2 ppg. Much more of a slasher than a shooter. The inside threat is 5′10″ forward Chiara Robinson with 11.1 ppg and 7 rpg. And a secondary 3 point shooter is Monai Douglass who averages 8.8 ppg & shoots almost 40% from 3. Nothing the Lady Liberators haven’t faced before. What makes the Lady Bulldogs different is their defensive quickness. They have 7 players that average 1.4 steals per game or better. They punish sloppy play brutally.
3 keys for Bolivar
- Take care of the ball. Berkeley generates points from turnovers. Their high point games came from teams that couldn’t handle the pressure.
- Solid team defense. Bolivar has done this all year. I don’t think it should be a problem.
- Timely scoring from secondary sources. As always, if Bolivar can keep all the defensive pressure off Garrison, they are simply the best team in the state.
