My Big (unlucky for the) SCA Road Trip

As I prepared for the football season, I started looking at what games I wanted to see.  I highlighted a number of them to try to catch throughout the year, but in week one, there was one I didn’t want to miss.  Hogan Prep at Mt. View-Liberty.  After last year, there was no doubt that this would be a meeting of top 10 teams.  Liberty had made the second round for the second straight year and gave Fair Grove a struggle before falling.  While Hogan had pushed eventual state champion Maryville to the limit.  Hogan is usually loaded with athletes, including Devante Bausby this year.  Mt. View returned a host of all-conference players on offense.  Plus throw in my personal reason of getting a chance to see my awesome grandmother, and this was a must see for me.

There was just one wrinkle, it was set for Saturday afternoon.  Well this was a very opportune wrinkle since it would allow me the chance to watch not one, but two games in week 1 because Hwy 60 would be crawling with games.  Continue reading My Big (unlucky for the) SCA Road Trip

Week 1 Football Rankings

Here’s the latest state rankings after week 1 games.  Miller and Thayer hold and #7 and #9 in class 1.  With Pierce City getting a vote.

In class 2, Mt. View-Liberty falls out of the top 10 but is still getting votes along with Fair Grove.  Meanwhile, Lamar grabs #7 all alone after sharing it last week.

Class 3 has lots of interesting action.  The most interesting being that Aurora finds itself ranked after soundly defeating Warsaw.  The Houn Dawgs are at #8 this week.  Rogersville moves up two spots to #2.  Right behind the unanimous #1 for a second poll, Cassville.  Mountain Grove, Seneca, and Monett are each receiving votes.

OS.Net Question of the Week – 8/30/10

In the early going of every season, you get some shocking results.  Chaminade over Ralph Sampson’s Virginia team for instance.  But in no sport is it more pronounced than high school football.  Virtually all the teams start at the exact same time so instead of being eased into it, you get hit with all the stunners in rapid succession.  Such was the case again Friday night which gives us our question of the week.

Week 1 Review

A pretty typical week 1.  Some shocking results, some teams looking just as good as advertised, some HUGE performances, some fresh faces emerging, some questions answered, and some questions still open.  The big question right now is “Who won between Ava and Strafford?”  Usually we’d be pretty set on this point but multiple sources are reporting the score different ways.  The score was 35-28.  And it did go to overtime.  That we know.  Everyone agrees.  But was it the Bears or the Indians?  That’s the point of contention.  Well I can say on good authority (i.e. someone who was actually at the game) that Ava did come out the winner.  Now that we have that out of the way, it’s the moment you’ve all really been waiting for since last year’s Show-Me Bowls.  Yes, we all enjoy the football games.  But everybody loves the Ozarks favorite game…

8/22/10 Question of the Week Results

A pretty resounding choice from the fans.  And after their resounding win Friday night, it hard to argue with Cassville being the team champion from last fall with the best chance of repeating?  73% of you made the Wildcats your pick even before they opened the season.  Coming in next was the College Heights boys cross [...]

Week 1 Scores

I’m here in Mt. View awaiting the gates opening at the Eagles Nest.  I’ll be tweeting updates as I did from the Cassville/Mountain Grove game last night.   But here’s the complete scoreboard from last night’s action.

2010 Week 1 Picks

It’s finally here!  Let the trumpets be sounded forth.  Slay the fatted calf.  Prepare to make merry uponeth the greenery of many fields as dusk settleth over the earth.  Yea verily, it is good and shall be good forevermore.  Bringeth forth mistrials to delight our ears with the anthems of our lands.  Set the musicians to play, the spotted hordes to cheer, and the young men who recalleth the titans of yore to clash within the arenas of our land as they seek to claim eternal, resplendent glory for themselves and their principalities!

In other words, let’s play some football.  I’ll be doing an SCA swing this weekend starting in Mountain Grove to watch the Panthers clash with defending state class 3 champions Cassville.  Then it’s off to Howell County for Hogan Prep and Mt. View-Liberty Saturday afternoon.  More great games this opening week than I think I’ve ever seen before.  So, town cryer, announceth the picks!

2010 Spring River Valley Football Predictions

Five of the SRVCs 8 teams made it to the playoffs last season.  Miller made the most of their berth by advancing to the quarterfinals.  Pierce City knocked off Warsaw in class 2 before bowing out against Lamar.  And Jasper, Greenfield and Lockwood each dropped opening round games.  Can the conference repeat such success in 2010?

2010 SCA Football Predictions

A three way tie for the conference title last year kept Mountain Grove’s string of championships alive.  Mt. View-Liberty will look to start a string of their own.  And familiar friend Thayer returns to the conference.
