No real change in Guy’s condition. Still about the same. I’m going to the hospital tonight even though I’m certain I won’t be able to see him. Just want to lend my support & help to Vicki and the rest of the Newcomb family. Vicki has started a blog to keep everyone up to date on [...] Alright, I survived my last fireworks stand (hopefully), I have completed my summer vacation (San Antonio), and have a mini tour of Missouri on tap this weekend. So while summer is still upon us, let’s go get a trim at the ol’ barbershop.

I had spoken to her in passing a few times, but I think it’s safe to say she didn’t know my name and wouldn’t have recognized me if you had shown her my picture. Every time I watched the Lady Chiefs play and had a chance to introduce myself, I would defer thinking “She has more important things to do than talk to me.” But since her days as a player at Springfield Catholic, I had watched her. And as a avid people watcher I observed certain things about her. Then with the onset of her illness, a good deal of her private life became public allowing me to observe even more about her. And though I never knew her, we were all able to know a great deal about her. Allen Vaughan posted a nice Q&A session with Springfield Public Schools AD Mark Fisher this week at RecSpecsOnline that I thought might interest some folks. Fisher answers questions about his responsibilities, the state of things within SPS, and issues present there. But also shares some insight into putting together the Tournament of Champions, and some entertaining [...] Found out this evening that I will be making an appearance on the Sports Reporters on The Jock 98.7 tomorrow. 10:05 is my scheduled call time. I must say, this is something special for me. As a loyal KY3 family growing up, Ned Reynolds has been sports in the Ozarks to me for my whole life. [...] Just got directed to a new website by a post on The Scoreboard Guy’s website. And it turned out to be someone most of us are familiar with, but he’s headed in a new direction. Allen Vaughn of News-Leader high school beat fame now has his own site going called RecSpecs Online. He’s still talking about [...] I’ll be honest, this article turned into a bit of a long winded rant. So if you just want the brass tacks, skip to the last paragraph now. Otherwise, please read on. Last year as the Show-Me Bowl weekend approached, I made an attempt to secure a press pass for the big event from MSHSAA. Now in no way do I consider myself a member of the press, and I didn’t expect to be granted a pass. I just thought, “Why not try? I’m going to be there anyway.” They had every right to say no. If they had investigated OzarksSports.Net and found that I’m not a full-time writer and it’s not a full-business and had said politely “We appreciate your interest, but no.” I would have been able to walk away. But that isn’t what happened. You folks know I don’t plug things that aren’t really great. I’m not in this to suck up to people, make money, win awards, get a new job, or pave the way for a possible run at the governor’s office. Although I wouldn’t object to 3 of those 5 things. You can ponder which 3. No, I do this because I love high school sports and the Ozarks. And I know many of you feel the same way.
