Now that we’re through the opening weekend of high school football and my SCA road trip is over, let’s all remember that other sports are being played. Including boys soccer opening up as Crocker’s Teddy Zeigenbein picked right up where he left off last year, scoring two goals to lead class 1 Crocker to a 3-1 over West Plains.

Alright, I survived my last fireworks stand (hopefully), I have completed my summer vacation (San Antonio), and have a mini tour of Missouri on tap this weekend. So while summer is still upon us, let’s go get a trim at the ol’ barbershop.

I do not consider myself a member of the media. Yes, I have the website that you behold now. Yes, I’ve made a few appearances on some radio shows. But I would be delusional to think I am a media member. Continue reading At the Barbershop – Post Fireworks Edition

The world’s reaction to Landon Donovan’s game winning goal vs Algeria Wednesday including two clips from the gang at Farmer’s Gastropub in Springfield. As for me, I was sitting in in my rental car in the parking lot of Manassas National Battlefield listening to the game on the radio. After my reaction, that Prius will never [...]

One thing you can be certain of about the News-Leader’s 2010 All-Ozarks girls soccer team, you will see most of them again. The selections, especially on the first team, are heavy with underclassmen. Which means that Catholic’s state title may just be the beginning of the Ozark’s rise in soccer. Ozark’s Paige Hemphill and Jessica Maerz of Parkview are the only seniors to make the first team. Seven juniors and two sophomores, Lauren Moats of Nixa and Bekah Bade of Catholic, compose the rest of the team. Catholic leads the way with four first team and one second team selection, all underclassmen.

“And the walls came tumbling down.” - Joshua Fought the Battle of Jericho
The first state soccer championship in the state of Missouri occurred during the 1968-69 school year. At Normandy High School in St. Louis, the Christian Brothers boys team upended Rosary 1-0 in overtime to claim that historic first title. The first girls championship would be played in 1985 but by then the wall separating the Ozarks from a state soccer title was solidly in place. 23 years after that first title game, teams from SW Mo began taking down the wall piece by precious piece. Progress was slow but steady.
