2010 Boys State Tennis

A bad news/good news situation with the boys state tennis tournaments this year.  The bad news is that for the second consecutive year(and ninth consecutive on the large school side) no Ozarks team reached the final four.  In class 2, the eventual state champions Rock Bridge eliminated first Glendale in sectionals 5-1, then Central in the quarterfinals 5-0.  Central had advanced with a solid 5-1 win over Jefferson City in sectionals, but fell short of becoming the first Ozarks team to reach the final four of the large division since Glendale in 2001.

Same song second verse in class 1 with Pembroke Hill taking out Webb City 6-0 in sectionals, and Thomas Jefferson 5-0 in the quarterfinals on their way to the state title.  Thomas Jefferson defeated Barstow 5-4 in their sectional match but missed out on the final four for the second consecutive year.

The good news is on the singles & doubles scene where half of the state titles were captured by Ozarks players.  Continue reading 2010 Boys State Tennis

This Is The End – 2010

It’s that time again.  Starting Saturday, all events are of the district level or better.  District baseball & girls soccer starts, class 3 and 4 track & field districts will be held, boys tennis districts should finish up, and sectionals for class 1 and 2 track & field will happen.  Big day Saturday.  Here’s what happens after Saturday for the rest of the year.

5/6/10 Scores

It was generally a good night to be a Glendale Falcon.  Glendale secured two conference championships Thursday night as the boys tennis team took the conference title 40-42 over Joplin.  Paul Nahon claimed #1 singles for the Falcons, while Andy Collins & Will Stone took #1 doubles.  On the baseball diamond, Skyler Ladd’s 1 hitter lead the Falcons to a 13-0 win over Joplin and gave Glendale a share of the conference title with Kickapoo as both teams finished the year at 8-1.  And the soccer version of the Lady Falcons defeated Lebanon 3-1 on Senior Night.

Not so much luck on the track for Glendale though as the West Plains boys and Waynesville girls claim titles at the Ozark Conference meet.
