At the Barbershop – Post Fireworks Edition

Alright, I survived my last fireworks stand (hopefully), I have completed my summer vacation (San Antonio), and have a mini tour of Missouri on tap this weekend.  So while summer is still upon us, let’s go get a trim at the ol’ barbershop.

I do not consider myself a member of the media.  Yes, I have the website that you behold now.  Yes, I’ve made a few appearances on some radio shows.  But I would be delusional to think I am a media member.  Continue reading At the Barbershop – Post Fireworks Edition

2010 Class 4 State Track & Field Results

Kickapoo’s Danny Thater and Hillcrest’s Doriel Green both had big days at the class 4 championships.  Thater took home the 1600 meter championship, and finished second in the 3200.  Green’s amazing year continued with a pair of state titles, in the triple jump & 100 meter dash, and a second place finish in the long jump placing Hillcrest sixth in the final standings.

No title materialized from a talents group on the girls side.  Liz Reida of Kickapoo, Jessica Jackson of Neosho, and Ekate Lymon of Waynesville each grabbed all-state honors in two events and each should be back again next year.  Also placing in two events was Ashlie Shimmin of Joplin who finished third in the shot put and fourth in the discus.  Those, combined with second place finishes from Emilee Dailey in the high jump and MacKenzee Roberts in the pole vault propelled the Lady Eagles to a surprising top 10 finish as they placed eighth.

2010 Class 2 State Track & Field Results

On the boys side of class 2, a repeat of last year as College Heights distance running wasn’t enough to overcome the sprinters of Maplewood as College Heights takes third again.  Caleb Hoover takes two firsts (in the 1600 & 3200), a third, and is part of the second place 4 by 800 team to lead the way.  Caleb Barnum of Strafford is happy to see Nic Ford of Centralia graduate as Barnum takes three runner up finishes, trailing Ford in each.  The Indians finish eighth and Fair Grove takes tenth.  And Iberia’s Brian Duncan repeats as the state discus champ.

For the girls, Conway takes third with Dallis Bailey repeating as the 800 meter champion.  Stockton joins the Lady Bears in the top 10 with an eighth place finish.  And Mt. View-Liberty’s Kylie Cornman improves on her fourth place finish of last year to win the state shot put championship.

2010 Class 1 State Track & Field Results

Alright.  Back from vacation & we’re going to catch up on a few things we missed.  So prepare for a deluge of posts the next few days.

Jeff Piepenbrink of Jasper was the story on the boys side as he closed out his high school career with 3 state titles to lead Jasper to a second place finish.  Piepenbrink accounted for 34 of Jasper’s 39 points as they finished just 3 points back of champion Wellington-Napoleon.  New Covenant took third trailing Jasper by only 2 points.  The Warriors only won the 4 by 800 relay, but scored a number of other high finishes.  Other winners included Wheaton sophomore Bubba Galvan taking the long jump, and Jordan Meadows of Liberal edging Osceola’s Josh Foley by .04 for the state 200 meter dash title.

No state titles on the girls side, but a strong showing by Liberal as they finish fifth, just three points out of third.

5/17/10 Question of the Week Results

The people have spoken in record numbers.  And with incredible support from the towns of Houston & Lebanon, Kyle Poynter is the people’s choice for boys athlete of the year.  And all-state selection in basketball, and a likely all-state selection in baseball, comments & emails also pointed to Kyle’s character as a main reason for his support.  And we’re all about that at OzarksSports.  The senior took an astonishing 60% of the vote due to the deluge of votes from his local fans.

Coming in second was sophomore Doriel Green with 16%.  Green made all-state in both football & basketball, and is won three events at the class 4 sectional track & field meet this weekend.  A pair of under appreciated stars tie for third with Alex wise of Neosho & Travis Northern of Cassville both getting 6%.
