Class 1, 2, & 3 girls district preview

CLASS 1

District 2 at Bakersfield

Lesterville sits at #4 in the state and is looking strong.  Eminence has been state ranked and has one of the best freshman in the state in Kelsey Williams.

  1. Lesterville
  2. Eminence
  3. Bakersfield
  4. Bradleyville
  5. Dora
  6. Bunker
  7. Lutie

Prediction:  Not this year.  Lesterville wins over Eminence.

District 5 at Bolivar

Another district with no great deals, but a number of solid ones.  And Humansville has been playing very well in the second half of the season.  Hermitage, Fair Play, and Wheatland have all taken turns beating up on each other so that’s a pick ‘em situation.

  1. Humansville
  2. Hermitage
  3. Fair Play
  4. Wheatland
  5. Climax Springs
  6. Halfway
  7. Macks Creek
  8. Dadeville

Prediction: Humansville does take it.  I’ll go with Fair Play for second.

District 6 at Aurora

Exeter is on top of the world at the moment.  #1 in the state, scorers to compliment Whitney Edie, and Edie herself.  Verona, Walnut Grove, and Chadwick are all looking to upset.  But…

  1. Exeter
  2. Verona
  3. Walnut Grove
  4. Chadwick
  5. Hurley
  6. Everton
  7. Niangua

Prediction:  The only squad that really has a shot to unseat Exeter is Verona because of the pressure they can bring.  But they haven’t quite been on their game lately and look to be a year away.  Exeter over Verona.

District 7 at Hume

More solid teams with not much to pick from.  Rich Hill, Lockwood, Sheldon, & Brounaugh could all have cases made for them.

  1. Rich Hill
  2. Lockwood
  3. Sheldon
  4. Bronaugh
  5. Hume
  6. Golden City
  7. NE Vernon County
  8. Thomas Jefferson

Prediction:  Rich Hill tops Lockwood to win.

CLASS 2

District 2 at Summersville

Four real quality teams here.  Couch has lost 3 games lately, but all against strong competition.  Micah Stevens and Thayer hope to challenge but have three losses to the Lady Indians already.

  1. Couch
  2. Thayer
  3. Hartville
  4. Norwood
  5. Mansfield
  6. Gainesville
  7. Koshkonong
  8. Summersville

Prediction:  Whitney Mills leads Couch over Thayer for a fourth time in the final.  The Lady Indians just play rock solid.

District 4 at South Iron

  1. Bismarck
  2. Viburnum
  3. Van Buren
  4. Ellington
  5. Valley Caledonia
  6. South Iron
  7. East Carter

District 8 at Laquey

Laquey is state ranked and have been as steady as any team in the state this year.  The Lady Hornets beat Richland 2 weeks ago rather easily.  But Kylie Eldredge and the Lady Bears can light it up at any time.  Vienna is a potential roadblock for Richland in the semis.

  1. Laquey
  2. Richland
  3. Vienna
  4. Crocker
  5. Plato
  6. Newburg
  7. Stoutland
  8. Iberia

Prediction: Laquey and Richland in the final.  And until Richland proves they can win the big game, I have to go with Laquey.

District 9 at Clever

Now this is a dandy waiting to happen.  Undefeated & state-ranked Sparta coming into Clever for districts.  Bridget Hanafin and the Lady Blue Jays possibly waiting.  Fordland, who has beaten Clever this year lurking.  And teams like Spokane & Crane (who has a win over Blue Eye) just itching to upset the apple cart.

  1. Sparta
  2. Clever
  3. Fordland
  4. Spokane
  5. Crane
  6. Galena
  7. New Covenant
  8. Billings
  9. Greenwood

Prediction: Fordland drops Clever to get to the final.  But Sparta continues to roll.

District 10 at Purdy

Another dandy district.  Miller has the top seed and a win over Purdy at Purdy this year.  Purdy’s young team continues to improve.  While McAuley has been playing very well as of late.  And Rachel Brehm has been laboring in obscurity for College Heights.  Hannah Wilkerson had 37 for Miller in their 8 point win over Purdy earlier in the season.

  1. Miller
  2. Purdy
  3. McAuley
  4. College Heights
  5. Jasper
  6. Wheaton
  7. Marionville
  8. Greenfield
  9. Sarcoxie

Prediction:  It’s Miller & Purdy in the final.  And look for Katrina Logan & Sam Hendrickson to keep Purdy from being able to focus on Hannah, getting Miller the win.

District 11 at Osceola

Osceola has bounced between beating Montrose and losing to Skyline in the last two weeks.  Will they be ready a strong Adrian team who’s only two losses are to the Lady Indians.  Archie cannot be overlooked by Adrian.

  1. Osceola
  2. Adrian
  3. Archie
  4. Lakeland
  5. Liberal
  6. Weaubleau
  7. Appleton City
  8. Windsor

Prediction:  You can see it coming.  Archie knocks off Adrian in the semis.  And Osceola defeats Archie for the title.

CLASS 3

District 9 at Hermann

Hermann’s Shelby Winkelmann is a year better after leading them to 3rd in state last year.  All of their five losses are to quality teams and by decent margins.  Can Dixon and Haley Yoakum knock off the state’s #5 team on their home court?

  1. Hermann
  2. Dixon
  3. Fatima
  4. Belle
  5. Cuba
  6. Steelville
  7. Linn
  8. Bourbon

Prediction: No.  Hermann over Dixon for the title.

District 10 at Willow Springs

Ava has been quietly going about their business and having a good season.  But is not an overwhelming favorite.  While Licking has been doing much the same thing.  Neither are spectacular, but are not easy outs.  Houston has potential.

  1. Ava
  2. Licking
  3. Houston
  4. Mountain Grove
  5. Willow Springs
  6. Alton
  7. Cabool
  8. Liberty

Prediction:   I think it comes down to the top two seeds.  And I’ll go with Licking to step up their game for the title.

District 11 at Strafford

Fair Grove is on a roll, is a team of destiny, has the eye of the tiger, etc.  All the cliches you want to throw out.  They look real good right now.  Can anyone in this district beat them?  I.E. is deep enough to stay with them the entire game.  Blue Eye fits that description best.  But will have their hands full with a good Catholic team and Abby Reith in the semis.

  1. Fair Grove
  2. Blue Eye
  3. Catholic
  4. Conway
  5. Strafford
  6. Seymour
  7. Forsyth
  8. Hollister

Prediction: Blue Eye is playing well and I’ll take them to make the finals.  But Fair Grove is set to go a long ways in the playoffs.

District 12 at East Newton

Very interesting matchups here.  But not at the top.  Mt. Vernon deserves the top spot and has the record of a contender.  They’ve beaten Ash Grove twice this year including blowing their doors off last night.  And downed Seneca and East Newton easily.  No, it has the feel of a 6 or 7 seed making it through.

  1. Mt. Vernon
  2. Ash Grove
  3. Seneca
  4. East Newton
  5. Diamond
  6. Southwest
  7. Lamar
  8. Pierce City

Prediction:  Mt. Vernon takes it.  But going purely on a hunch, I think Lamar will be the opponent.  Let the jeering begin.

District 13 at Skyline

The defending champs are the class of this group.  And Pleasant Hope is the clear two.  The only question is can Lauren McCurry and gang pull the upset?

  1. Skyline
  2. Pleasant Hope
  3. Cole Camp
  4. Stockton
  5. Morrisville
  6. Warsaw
  7. El Dorado Springs
  8. Butler

Prediction:  Again, no.  Skyline showed they’re dialed in right now with the win over Osceola.  And they’ll be at home.  They drop the Lady Pirates.
