Class 4 & 5 quarterfinal preview
By Joboo | February 29, 2008
Just 2 sights left in classes 4 & 5 with Ozarks teams playing. Let’s take a look & see what to expect.
CLASS 5
Missouri University of Science & Technology (the school formerly known as UMR)
- Girls -Sat at 1:00 PM - Rock Bridge (22-6) vs Waynesville (20-5)
Some strong similarities in these 2 teams. Neither is the premier girls team in their area, but they’re still playing while others are not. They both have a tendency to let games get away from them against strong competition. And they both can play some strong defense. The Lady Tigers will need that defense to stay in this game. The Lady Bruins can absolutely strangle teams without a strong offense so Waynesville will need to keep the score down. Rock Bridge wins the common opponent comparisons & has played a tougher schedule.
- Boys - Sat at 2:45 PM - Fort Zumwalt South (25-3) vs Waynesville (22-6)
The Bulldogs are the only team to beat class 4 #1 St. Charles West this year. The Tigers stood toe to toe with one of the best teams in the country in Christ the King. But lost to the same Rock Bridge team the South beat in the sectionals. Should just be a great game. The winner of the inside battle should win this game and it should be a tremendous battle. Both teams have good height & Waynesville is as strong inside as they come.
CLASS 4
Missouri State University
- Girls - Sat at 1:00 PM - Bolivar (26-2) vs Webb City (18-8)
We know these 2 teams well. Both have big time players in freshman star Kaitlin Jaeger for Webb City & outgoing superstar Casey Garrison for Bolivar. The Lady Liberators are well rested after an easy first round game. The Lady Cardinals staged a furious rally to move on. Two keys here. 1 - The star match-up. No one has been able to stop Garrison this year. Webb needs Jaeger to have a big game to offset Casey’s output. 2 - Timely contributions from the rest of the team. Who can get the shots from other sources when it’s needed? Both teams have done it to get this far. Whoever get them wins.
- Boys - Sat at 2:45 PM - Clinton (24-4) vs Webb City (24-4)
A very similar match-up to the Branson game for Webb City. Clinton is a bit undersized with no one over 6′3″. They look to score off their defense, which is a good one. But not a high scoring team at all. Webb City with their superior height & great interior passing game should be able to control this match-up. They’ve shown great poise & patience this year & seem to be dialed in right now. Alan Pink, Trey Laveroni, & Landon Zerkel should have a field day.
