    Class 4 baseball semifinal update

    By Joboo | May 30, 2008

The Ozarks will be playing for both state championships tomorrow as Ozark, behind the pitching of Ethan Mather, defeat Oak Park 7-3 to advance to the final. Oak Park jumped out to a 3-0 lead after 2 innings as Mather surrendered 6 of the 8 hits he would give up on the day, and the only walk he would allow. He then found his groove and struck out 11 Norsemen over the last 5 innings with no Oak Park runners advancing past second from that point on. Meanwhile, the Tiger bats were silent for the first 4 innings with only 1 hit. The fifth inning proved the pivotal point of the game as Ozark scored 6 runs on 6 hits. And Oak Park was fortunate to escape without further damage as 3 runners were left stranded. By then Mather was untouchable retiring the last nine batters he faced. Ozark added an insurance run in the sixth. The Tigers will face the 24-3 Francis Howell Vikings, who came back from a 5-2 deficit to beat St. Louis University High 8-5, at 4 PM tomorrow at Meador Park.
