District basketball preview - girls classes 1, 2, & 3
By Joboo | January 29, 2008
CLASS 1
District 3 - Chadwick
- Bakersfield
- Bradleyville
- Chadwick
- Dora
- Hurley
- Lutie
- Niangua
Bradleyville has persevered in the face of losing coach Troy Hays mid season. The rest of the field has struggled this year, although Chadwick & Bakersfield are not to be overlooked.
Prediction: Bradleyville adds a district championship to an emotional season beating Chadwick on their home court.
District 4 - Aurora
- Billings
- Everton
- Exeter
- Golden City
- Lockwood
- Thomas Jefferson
- Verona
- Walnut Grove
An interesting district featuring the defending state champs in Walnut Grove & a MSU signee in Exeter’s Whitney Edie. Exeter & Lockwood appear to be the favorites & should have the 1 & 2 seeds in some fashion. Of the rest, Walnut Grove poses the biggest threat.
Prediction: Verona has the closest thing to a home court advantage here, but probably doesn’t make it past the first round. The Tigers have it as I’m taking Walnut Grove to beat Exeter in the semifinals, only to fall to Lockwood for the championship.
District 11 - Bolivar
- Climax Springs
- Dadeville
- Fair Play
- Halfway
- Hermitage
- Humansville
- Macks Creek
- Wheatland
No cake walk here with 5 possible contenders. Dadeville, Fair Play, Hermitage, Macks Creek, & Wheatland all are capable of winning it. The top 3 seeds are still up for grabs but they will most likely fall to Dadeville, Macks Creek, & Wheatland.
Prediction: Maybe not the best district for quality of teams, but should be very competitive. Dadeville over Wheatland in the finals.
CLASS 2
District 9 - Mansfield
- Couch
- Fordland
- Gainesville
- Hartville
- Koshkonong
- Mansfield
- Norwood
- Thayer
Another very competitive district. A number of these teams have been swapping victories over each other all year. Couch, which owns a couple of wins over Thayer & one over Fordland, is the co-favorite along with Norwood. But Thayer, Fordland, & even Hartville are very capable.
Prediction: Norwood over Fordland, but this one is going to be fun.
District 10 - Laquey
- Crocker
- Iberia
- Laquey
- Newburg
- Plato
- Richland
- Stoutland
- Vienna
The Laquey Lady Hornets are state ranked & having a great year. A clear #1 seed & playing the district at home. But, Richland is also having a strong year, & the Stoutland Lady Tigers are always dangerous.
Prediction: This smells of upset. I think Stoutland’s experience let’s them take the title coming out of the #3 spot over Laquey.
District 11 - Sparta
- Blue Eye
- Clever
- Crane
- Galena
- Greenwood
- Marionville
- New Covenant Academy
- Sparta
A good quartet of teams here including the host Sparta. New Covenant has a great record, but they have played the weakest schedule in the area by far.
Prediction: Ummm. What’s that smell? Good old fashioned home cookin’. That’s right. I’m giving the nod to Sparta in this district. I’ll take them over Blue Eye.
District 12 - Missouri Southern State University
- College Heights
- Jasper
- Liberal
- McAuley
- Miller
- Purdy
- Sarcoxie
- Wheaton
District 12 features a couple of the better small school girls in the area. Miller’s Hannah Wilkerson & Purdy’s Avery Roller.
Prediction: I like Wilkerson’s Cardinals over Roller’s Eagles in this battle of the birds.
District 13 - Osceola
- Adrian
- Appleton City
- Greenfield
- Lakeland
- Morrisville
- Osceola
- Rich Hill
- Weaubleau
This appears to be one of the more cut & dried districts. #1 seed Osceola & #2 seed Adrian. Morrisville appears to be the only team that could play spoiler.
Prediction: Osceola own neutral court wins over both Adrian & Morrisville this year. They should win it. I’ll take Morrisville to finish runner-up.
CLASS 3
District 2 - Greenville
- Alton
- Clearwater
- Doniphan
- East Carter
- Greenville
- Malden
- Twin Rivers
- Woodland
The Lady Comets have been around .500 all year, but the competition isn’t that great. And they get a nice long trip to Greenville for districts.
Prediction: It ends in the second round for Alton. Greenville takes the championship over Malden.
District 9 - Linn
- Belle
- Bourbon
- Cuba
- Dixon
- Fatima
- Hermann
- Linn
- Steelville
Ah, Linn. The longest little town in America. And the fieldhouse that looks like a big barn. But I digress. Dixon makes the journey to Linn for district play.
Prediction: The Lady Bulldogs have a run at it, but get beat out by a tough Hermann team in the finals.
District 10 - Cabool
- Cabool
- Conway
- Houston
- Licking
- Mountain Grove
- MV-BT Liberty
- Seymour
- Willow Springs
Get out the coin on this one. You have your pick of 3 teams hovering just below the .500 mark in Conway, Houston, & Seymour.
Prediction: Only if you don’t hold me to it. Heads says Seymour over Houston.
District 11 - Fair Grove
- Ash Grove
- Catholic
- Fair Grove
- Forsyth
- Hollister
- Pleasant Hope
- Spokane
- Strafford
Looking at the records, this looks like a balanced district with Catholic, Fair Grove, Hollister, & Strafford carrying good records in. But looks can be deceiving. Catholic’s schedule is far tougher than the rest of the contenders.
Prediction: Catholic’s to lose. And I think they’ll win it by beating Fair Grove for the third time this year.
District 12 - Mt. Vernon
- Aurora
- Diamond
- East Newton
- Lamar
- Mt. Vernon
- Pierce City
- Seneca
- Southwest
Mt. Vernon is state ranked. Pierce City played them close earlier this year. Aurora has shown that when their defense is on, they can beat anyone like state-ranked Catholic. And Southwest is in the middle of a good year. Add in the Aurora/Mt. Vernon rivalry & this should be a fun district.
Prediction: Aurora & Mt. Vernon meeting in the semis should be fantastic. The Lady Mountaineers prevail & win the rematch with Pierce City for the title.
District 13 - Versailles
- Cole Camp
- El Dorado Springs
- Eugene
- Osage
- Skyline
- Stockton
- Versailles
- Warsaw
3 teams to consider here. Stockton, Skyline, & Eugene. Stockton owns a convincing win at Skyline just last week. Skyline was within 4 of Marshfield in the 4th quarter earlier this year. Eugene has a strong record, but has been waxed in it’s 3 meetings with state ranked teams.
Prediction: It looks like a rematch is in the cards & I just can’t see Skyline pulling it off. Stockton wins.
