Press Release

The 9th annual Kickapoo Basketball Classic will tip off another great season
of high school basketball in the Ozarks. All the teams feature top players
and many are destined to play at the next level. A championship will be a huge
challenge and the fans will be in for some top of the line games. Let’s play
ball!!

Evangelical Christian-Cordova, TN

The Evangelical Christian Eagles are returning to the Tip-Off Classic for a
third time and veteran coach Terry Tippet will field a strong team. The
Eagles finished 3rd in the state last season and look to be even stronger this
year. Evangelical Christian is led by 6′7″ senior Terrance Stringfellow who is
being recruited by Air Force, Tennessee Tech and others. The Eagles also
feature Jonathan Milewski, a 3 point shooting star and 5′11″ guard Micah Givins.
Evangelical Christian will be good.

Fayetteville High School-Arkansas

The purple Bulldogs coached by Barry Gebhart will make their 9th appearance
in the Classic and will return Fred Gulley, an Oklahoma State signee. Gulley
is a top player and will be supported by 6′7″ senior Cable Hogue and 6′2″
junior Taylor Cochran. Fayetteville finished 3rd in the state of Arkansas last
season and look to be even stronger this year. The Purple Bulldogs will be a
contender for the championship.

Har-Ber Springdale, AR

Har-Ber returns to the Classic for the second time and the class act from
Springdale will be competitive. Coach Eric Burnett will field a squad that
includes All-Conference player Taylor Sites, 5′10″ guard, Joe Perry, 6′7″
center, 5′9″ Mason Clinkscales, and 6′3″ Tata Lane. The returning players give
Har-Ber depth and experience.

Liberty High School-Liberty

9th time and as always, will be a team that will challenge for a
championship. The class act of Coach Stirtz includes Kevin Starr a 6′1″ sharpshooter who
was the MVP of their conference last season. The Bluejays 6′6″ Shaun Adams
a strong challenge for opposing teams.

St. Joe Lafayette High School

and returns 3 starters back from that team. Bryston Williams 6′2″ was All
Thomas to give Coach Jester a deadly shooting, scrappy bunch, ready to take
on the big schools. Welcome Chadwick, Coach Jester, the team and their fans.

Ozark High School

The Ozark Tigers of Coach Steve Hunter will be a strong contender to take a
championship trophy home. The district champions of last year return
All-Ozarks player, 6′5″ Jordan Knuckles and he is supported by returning starters 6′5″
Tom Ligon and shooting starts Isaiah Monroe and Seth Arnold. Coach Hunter’s
teams are always well-coached and play a hard, up-tempo game. The Tigers
from Christian County will be a load for all opponents.

Kickapoo High School-Springfield

The Chiefs finished 23-5 last season but Hall of Fame Coach Roy M. Green
returns only one starter in 6′1″ Alex Hall. The Chiefs will compete with
seniors 6′4″ Marcus Crigler, 6′5″ Jordan Buckley, 6′3″ Kris Pierce, 6′3″

The season isn’t even over and we already have confirmed openings in a couple of SW Mo schools. Jack Randolph has stepped down at Marshfield after 12 years. Also Willard is looking for a new coach with Phil Wickwar moving aside after 4 years. Unconfirmed is the report that David Williams will not be back as head coach at Ava. And the annual speculation about Steve Hancock retiring from Branson has already started as it does every year. Some day it will be true, but it remains to be seen if it will be true this year.

The dream has been realized! The pinnacle has been reached! Let the joyous news be sounded from the hilltops! Be shouted by all people of strong heart! Be upon the lips of all who form speech! For yea verily…

DELAWARE HAS ARRIVED!!!

Yes, the first state to ratify the U.S. Constitution is now the last state to visit OzarksSports.Net. The only state that knows no national park knows of the greatness of athletes in the Ozarks. The home of the University of Delaware Fightin’ Blue Hens has laid down arms to take up the mighty banner of OzarksSports.Net and complete our conquest of the ENTIRE UNITED STATES! Yes brothers and sisters, the gospel has went forth and hath borne fruit! Next, we reach the WHOLE WORLD!!!

OK, I’m a little excited.

Sorry.

But it’s terribly cool that in 11 months I’ve went from nothing to having a visitor from every state in the union. I won’t elaborate any more right now as our 500th post spectacular is right around the corner, but join me in welcoming Delaware to the family.

Next stop… Sri Lanka.

Thayer 30, Valle Catholic 0

Too much Jacob Eckman for Valle. Eckman gouged the Valle defense for 244 yards and 4 TDs on 37 carries. The Warriors simply could not stop him and Thayer rode his efforts to an easy win. On defense the Bobcats stopped the best Valle threat on their first drive when Lance Schneider picked off a pass in the end zone. Once Thayer had they lead, they used their speed to fly to the ball and completely shut down Valle. Just a dominant effort as the score could have been much worse. Thayer was stopped inside the 5 twice in the first half

Tipton 19, Greenfield 0

The Cardinals had a terrific defensive game plan that frustrated Greenfield all afternoon. They also took full advantage of the wind at their back in the first quarter to jump out to a 12-0 lead. From there, Tipton’s strong run game kept the clock running, and backup RB Jonathan Loganbill rushed for 150 yards and the backbreaker TD in the second half. Greenfield’s Jordan Riehm was contained for only 44 yards by the Cardinal D. And Jordan Bryant, despite passing for 164 yards, was only 7 of 22. A fine season for Greenfield comes to an end. Hopefully a final season top 10 ranking awaits.

CLASS 2

Fair Grove 26, Warsaw 25

Excitement plus here. Cam Bruffett tosses a touchdown pass on fourth and 11 to Justin Cleeton to make the score 25-24. The Eagles go for 2 and Caleb Schaffitzel scores it to give them the lead. Warsaw drives down and has a short field goal attempt to win the game. The Warsaw kicker knocks it through, but a penalty nullifies it and moves them back. The 31 yard game winner then goes wide as time runs out to preserve the win and send Fair Grove onto the semis. Good all-around team effort to get through their toughest game yet.

CLASS 3

Cassville 26, Rogersville 14

Just an excellent battle of two well-coached teams. Cassville’s defense had another workmanlike effort in holding Rogersville to only 14 points as they intercepted Colton Dill 3 times. Rogersville put together a long drive on their initial possession going 11 plays and 74 yards to grab a 7-0 lead. The first of Cassville’s interceptions set them up to get on the board next with Jon Haney going in from 10 yards out to even the score. Cassville took a 19-7 in the third on their first drive as they went 63 yards on 17 plays to kill the clock. Rogersville answered with a 31 yard TD pass from Dill to Josh Schmitt to make it 19-14 and seemingly get momentum on their side. But Haney put the game away for Cassville on his next carry blowing through the Rogersville D for a 69 yard TD run to make it 26-14. Cassville ended Rogersville’s last drive on a Chris Smith interception and move on to take on the #1 team in class 3, Chillicothe. Noah Besant had 170 yards for Rogersville. Haney 150 and 3 TDs for Cassville.

CLASS 4

Webb City 41, Bolivar 21

The Cardinals got off to a fast start jumping out to a 14-0 lead with scoring drives of 54 and 51 yards. Derek Lee scored from 22 yards out to make it 14-7. But Webb City added a 54 yard TD run from Braxton Baker and a 66 yards sprint from Mack Kyle just before half to make it 28-7. From there Bolivar was in catch up mode and just couldn’t overcome the Cardinal D. The Liberators played with good physicality and gave a good showing for themselves. But Webb City is just playing efficient, balanced, smart, hard-nosed football right now. Baker finished with 163 yards and 3 TDs to lead Webb. Preston Guiot rushed for 169 yards and passed for 183 for Bolivar.

CLASS 5

Hazelwood East 22, Waynesville 8

Lost opportunity for the Tigers who dominated this game. But 5 turnovers gave the win to Hazelwood East. The Spartans only offensive TD was on a 38 yard drive that was aided by a pass interference call. Their other two scores came on a 52 yard interception return and a 68 yard punt return. The Tigers didn’t do any better only scoring on a fumble recovery in the end zone by Axel Brinson. That and a 2 point conversion gave Waynesville the lead in the second quarter 8-0. East made it 8-8 at the half on their interception return. It would stay that way until the fourth when the Spartans scored their next two touchdowns a minute apart. Waynesville turnovers and the speed of the Spartan D kept the Tigers from putting anything else together and Waynesville’s season comes to an end. The Tigers out-gained East in total offense 247 to 75, and had a 19 to 4 advantage in first downs. But still fall.
