    Last one in is a….

    By Joboo | September 4, 2008

With the rain washing out everything yesterday, I thought I’d announce that we now have a winner in the ‘Last State to Visit OzarksSports.Net’ Sweepstakes. The lucky state will receive their very own OzarksSports.Net t-shirt and hat. If anyone from that state ever claims it.

    Now, the envelope please.

    THE CONTENDERS

    South Dakota

This one is near and dear to my heart as South Dakota is my dad’s home state. I’ve heard many tales from his youth. Of working in the gold mines, the Black Hills, hunting the plains, and the fabulous Mitchell Corn Palace.

Athletically, South Dakota boasts of 1964 10,000 meter gold medalist Billy Mills, Notre Dame coaching great Frank Leahy, and baseball coaching legend “Sparky” Anderson. The University of South Dakota Coyotes have sent a number of players onto the NFL, have a cross-country team that owns a Division 2 national title, and claims former world champion decathlete Dan O’Brian as an alumnus.  To the land of my ancestors, welcome to OzarksSports.Net.

    Vermont

Not just a haven for people seeking to legalize marijuana, Vermont has had it’s share of athletic success also. The Vermont Catamounts basketball team had a memorable run in the NCAA tournament in 03, 04, and 05. And the men’s ice hockey team has been a consistent winner producing NHL stars such as John LeClair and Martin St. Louis. Welcome aboard Vermont!

    THE LATE BLOOMER

    Hawaii

Yeah, yeah wiseguys. We all know what you think of when you think Hawaii. Volcanoes.  But did you know that the Aloha State has one of the most diverse sports scenes in the country? The Hawaii High School Athletic Association sponsors not only traditional sports such as basketball, football, and baseball, but also judo, air rifling, and canoe paddling. Hawaii is home to Sports Illustrated’s top high school athletic program in the country for 2008. The prestigious Punahou School in Honolulu. The University of Hawaii Warriors football team played in a BCS bowl last January. And to top it off, someone there did an actual search for Ozarks sports. Aloha Hawaii!!

    THE WINNER

    Delaware

Um….    Yeah.  You get your write up when you join in the revolution.  You’re behind the rest of the U.S.  But if you hurry, you can still beat Malaysia.  Oops!  Sorry, too late.   Maybe Sri Lanka.
