MBCA All-State Academic teams
By Joboo | April 1, 2008
The Missouri Basketball Coaches Association released their All-State Academic teams yesterday. And quite frankly, we didn’t do so good. Although with the growing rash of school boards being fixated on results alone, that shouldn’t be a surprise. On the 2006 teams, the Ozarks had 9 boys and 4 girls. In 2007 those numbers grew to 15 boys and 8 girls. With the 2008 teams, the girls maintained a respectable 6 members. But the boys plummeted to only 5 selections, the lowest number in the last 10 years. And the 11 combined members is second to only the 2005 total of 8. Here’s hoping that we don’t get so caught up in trying to become athletic superpowers, that we forget that our teams represent schools. Where the main purpose should still be the education of our children. Physical education is an important element of our schools, and athletics can be a great complementary piece. But education is the key. Congratulations to all our All-State scholar athletes! You make us proud.
