Ketchup. I mean catch up.
By Joboo | November 17, 2008
It’s going to be a quiet week event wise. Thank goodness. All fall sports are completed with the exception of soccer and football, no games in those two sports until this weekend, and the winter sports haven’t kicked off yet. So I’m going to use this week to catch up on some items that I haven’t posted yet. Some all-conference/district/state teams in volleyball and softball, individual results in cross country, a look ahead at basketball season, maybe even a rant or two. Who knows? If there’s something you’d like to see, drop me a line using the email link and I’ll see what I can do.
Now maybe I can catch my breath.

State swimming & diving individual finals
By Joboo | November 17, 2008
As I mentioned in the posting of the team finals, it was a good meet for the Ozarks at the state championships. In the 12 events, SW Mo swimmers brought home 4 third place, 5 second place, and 4 first place finishes. Matt Maurer of Kickapoo was the local star winning the 200 IM, 100 backstroke, and the 200 medley relay along with Trenton O’Dell, Jonathan Becktor, and Eric McIntyre. Maurer was also part of the 400 freestyle relay team that finished second. Niklas Brinck just missed doubling up as he won the 100 free and was just touched out in the 50 free. Albert Lloyd of Central and Cory McVey of Parkview were also double medalists. Here’s all the championship and consolation final results.

Class 3 soccer quarterfinals
By Joboo | November 17, 2008
Updated 1:45 PM - My thanks to Ole for correcting my errors.
The Ozarks will have another soccer team in St. Louis next weekend as Glendale dominated Jefferson City 3-0 Saturday in Waynesville.
The Falcons fired away from range in the first half, scoring three times from the edge of the box and beyond, as they had a strong wind at their backs. Ian Newport got the eventual game winner in the 23rd minute hitting top right from just inside the area. Brandon Baum stretched the Jay defense more by hitting from 30 yards out in the 27th minute. And in a game of ‘Can You Top This?’, Newport sent home his second goal just before halftime firing in a free kick from close to 45 yards out.

State swimming and diving team finals
By Joboo | November 15, 2008
A good day for area teams at the state boys swimming and diving championships. The area teams continue to gain on the big boys as Kickapoo takes second behind powerhouse Rockhurst. The Chiefs nabbed state titles in three events and finished second in 2 others to outdistance third place Blue Springs by over 100 points. Nixa also finished in the top 10 tying Chaminade for seventh place. Individual results coming tomorrow.

Technical difficulties
By Joboo | November 15, 2008
Sorry for the delays folks. Suffice it to say I’m somewhere that doesn’t provide the best internet service. Hopefully things hold up and I can get all the scores and the state swimming and diving results posted.

State cross country team results
By Joboo | November 14, 2008
As I try to get caught up on some things, here’s a big one. Last Saturday’ state cross country meet. Some fantastic results for the Ozarks teams on both the boys and girls side.
On the boys side in class 1, College Heights dominated the field to win the state title. Five College heights runners placed in the top 7. Hermitage took third. The East Newton and Catholic boys both had top 10 finishes in class 2. Class 3 say the West Plains boys take their thirteenth state cross country title. And Lebanon and Kickapoo also found themselves in the top 10 in class 4.
For the girls, Kickapoo finished fourth in class 4 to make it a fine day for Chiefs runners on both sides. But not as good as it was for West Plains as the Lady Zizzers paired their eleventh state title with the boys first place finish. East Newton secured second in class 2 for their best finish ever. Mountain Grove joined them in the top 10. And lastly in class 1, the College Heights girls also took a top 10 finish.
Congratulations to all our Ozarks teams the competed at state, and especially to our state champions. The College Heights and West Plains boys, and the West Plains girls.

Class 1 & 2 quarterfinal soccer
By Joboo | November 14, 2008
Bolivar and Catholic were both playing for a space in the final four yesterday in state boys soccer quarterfinals. Bolivar took to the field in their class 2 matchup with Pembroke Hill which turned into a titanic contest. Kyle Slagle put the Liberators on top in the first half and they held the lead until the early in the second half. Then Pembroke’s Ryan Buck netted 2 goals within a minute of each other to take a 2-1 lead. Bolivar got the equalizer when a Pembroke defender misplayed a ball resulting in an own goal. The team’s were scoreless through the first OT period and appeared headed to penalty kicks. But with 5 minutes left, Pembroke’s Ross Payne ripped a 25 yard free kick into the top right corner of the goal, and Bolivar’s season was done. Great effort and fine season for Bolivar as they finish the season 20-8.
