Review of class 4 & 5 predictions

As we pause for one day to take a breath before launching into all the basketball madness that is about to ensue, I, your fearless prognosticator, am going to see how I did predicting the class 4 & 5 district results a few weeks ago. It may be scary, but I’m not afraid to examine my own failures. Or talk trash about my triumphs. Let’s see what I can do.
BOYS
CLASS 4
District 4 - Union
Prediction: Unless someone shows some consistency over the next 3 weeks, this is a total coin flip. I think Salem ends with a 3 seed & goes down in the semis. St. Clair over Sullivan.
Result: Salem actually got a 2 seed, but other than that, an absolute bulls-eye.
District 9 - Bolivar
Prediction: When in doubt, go with the home cookin’. I’ll take Bolivar over Marshfield in the finals.
Result: Right on the money here.
District 11- Branson
Prediction: State ranked Branson has all the tools to get this done & I think they will. But I think the final & the Republic/Rogersville semi-final game will be fantastic. I’ll say the Pirates over the Wildcats in the final.
Result: My wording was confusing as I referenced Rogersville in the semi-final & Wildcats in the final when I think I meant Tigers. School name takes precedence & I’m calling this a direct hit.
District 12 - Carl Junction
Prediction: Let’s get it on! This should be the boys district match up of the year. The outcome of their match up on the 29th will play a huge role in deciding the district winner. I see Webb winning the next round, but that only serving to get the Bulldogs refocused for the stretch run. Carl Junction with the upset of the Cards in the district finals.
Result: I was so close. It was there for the taking for CJ. But alas, right schools, wrong result for me.
CLASS 5
District 10 - Rock Bridge
Prediction: Most likely one & done for Camdenton. Rock Bridge over Jefferson City in the finals.
Result: Rock Bridge over Jefferson City in the finals. I score.
District 11- Rolla
Prediction: This district is just ripe for an upset. But the Tigers will get a semi-final opponent that’s had to battle to get there, & they have experience at staying focused under pressure. I like them to win it over Glendale.
Result: Refocused Tigers over Glendale & I got it right.
District 12 - Kickapoo
Prediction: No way Kickapoo doesn’t win this right? Right? I’m not so sure. The Chiefs just seem to be missing something. That internal drive & consistency. Here’s my key. The season ending game at Waynesville. If Kickapoo wins that, they will not make it through districts. But my fearless prediction is that the Tigers defend their home court & Kickapoo storms through districts looking for a rematch in state. Ozark takes second & is a year away from making some noise.
Result: I had the teams right, but Ozark grew up faster than I thought. I’ll give myself partial credit for calling Kickapoo not making it through after beating Waynesville. But that’s just for my pride, not the record.
GIRLS
CLASS 4
District 4 - Union
Prediction - Sullivan hasn’t had a bad loss all year & has the kind of defense that wins in the postseason. Sullivan over Salem in the championship game.
Result: Right teams, but they played a semi-final instead. I got the winner of the district right though.
District 9 - Bolivar
Prediction - This looks like a special group of Lady Jays. They win the championship over Bolivar & march on to a state title.
Result: Great showing from Bolivar. I miss on the pick ‘em.
District 11- Branson
Prediction - Republic seems to beat every team they’re supposed to, & lose to teams they’re supposed to. I don’t see this being any different. Republic over West Plains.
Result: Um, yeah. Can I use my mulligan here. A total whiff.
District 12 - Carl Junction
Prediction - Playing the district on their home court, this is CJ’s to lose. I’ll take Carthage as the second place finisher.
Result: Another whiff. But the injury to CJ’s Tesia Lahm gives me a pass.
CLASS 5
District 10 - Hickman
Prediction - One & done for the Lakers. I’ll take the Kewpies over Rock Bridge in the final.
Result: Got the right teams, but the 2 point margin of victory went to the wrong team for me.
District 11- Rolla
Prediction - The Lady Tigers take it. Who they take it from is anyone’s guess. I’ll go with Glendale.
Result: Finally. Another correct winner. Missed the second place though.
District 12 - Kickapoo
Prediction - Just can’t pick against Kickapoo on their home floor. I’m fighting off the urge to pick a Bethanie Funderburk led Nixa upset & I’ll tag them for second.
Result: The Lady Tigers showed their stuff. Beating their arch-rival & the home team. Me? Swing & a miss.
Boys record: 4-2
Girls record: 2-4
Overall not so bad. I get a pass on the CJ girls. No shame in missing the Bolivar/Marshfield game. And 2 other close results went against me. Let’s see how I make out with the class 1, 2, & 3 predictions now. Enjoy the next few weeks. It’s gonna be fun.
