Sectional review

CLASS 1

  • Adrian 28, Greenfield 25 (OT)
    • After Jamie Gray gave Greenfield the fourth quarter lead, Adrian got a TD and 2 point conversion with 2 seconds left to send the game to overtime.  Greenfield had the ball first, was held, and Jordan Bryant converted a 37 yard FG to give them some points.  But Adrian’s Skylar Kariker caught his second TD pass of the night to give the Blackhawks the win and eliminate Greenfield.  Bryant had 2 TD runs for Greenfield going in from 25 and 62 yards and finished with 160 yards rushing.  But it’s the Blackhawks avenging last years sectional defeat and moving on.
  • Miller 35, Thayer 34, (2 OT)
    • “Wide left” is becoming a dirty word in Thayer as a missed extra point keeps the Bobcats from sending it to a third overtime and helps Miller gets the monkey off their back.  The Cardinals did so by snaring a interception late down 28-20.  The drove the short field to score and got the 2 point conversion to send it to OT.  Thayer couldn’t score on their possession, and Miller lined up for winning FG.  But the snap was bad and the kick was blocked sending it to a second OT.  Miller found the end zone in the second OT as did Thayer, but the wide extra point sends Miller home happy as they advance to host Valle Catholic Saturday.

CLASS 2

  • Lamar 34, Pierce City 18
    • Pierce City made a game out of it for a half.  A 46 yard TD run from Alex Clayton and a 32 yard Wayne Sooter TD pass as time expired made it 14-12 Lamar at the half.  But sophomore Markell White put up two TD in the second half to go with a TD pass and run in the first half  to help the Tigers outdistance Pierce City.  A botched second half kickoff lead to Lamar getting the ball on the Eagle six to start the second.  From there, White took it in to extend the Lamar lead & give them momentum that would carry them through to the next round.
  • Fair Grove 33, Mt. View-Liberty 23
    • Liberty took a 23-13 lead into the fourth quarter, but once again, Fair Grove refused to let one get away.  After pulling within 23-21, Fair Grove picked off a pass leading to a short field and a Caleb Schaffitzel TD to give them the lead.  Liberty began driving for the lead, but Fair Grove intercepted another pass and returned it deep into Liberty territory.  From there, Schaffitzel put the nail in the coffin for Mt. View with his third rushing TD of the night.   A fine effort from Liberty who held Schaffitzel to 158 yards rushing and Fair Grove to 210 yards of total offense.

CLASS 3

  • Rogersville 21, Mountain Grove 7
    • Grant Clouse scored twice in the first period.  While a fumbled snap on a punt lead to a Colton Dill TD pass.  It all added up to a 21-0 first quarter lead for the Wildcats.  Their defense would take it from there.  Not allowing the Panthers to score until the 4:49 mark of the fourth quarter.  Mountain Grove didn’t break the 100 yard rushing barrier until the fourth quarter as the Wildcat defense was just too fast for Mountain Grove to deal with.
  • Cassville 17, Seneca 7
    • The Indians took the initial kickoff and marched 80 yards for a TD, but would not score again.  The Wildcats ended their best scoring threats with an interception late in the first half, and a deflected path late in the fourth.  Meanwhile Cassville answered the Seneca score with one of their own, added a Matt Angel field goal to go up 10-7 at the half, then ran off a seven play scoring drive in the third period culminating in a Joseph Gouvion TD run.  And that was all the Wildcat defense needed.  They held Seneca to only 21 passing yards in the second half, sacked Jake Rhodes four times, and held the line when the offense couldn’t quite get the knockout blow.  Trevor Tanner finished with 156 yards rushing for the Wildcats.

CLASS 4

  • Bolivar 28, Hillcrest 0
    • Defense was the name of the game for the Liberators.  They held Hillcrest to only 198 yards of offense, sacked Mitch Jenkins 4 times, and snagged two interceptions.  Meanwhile, two TD passes in gave Bolivar the 14-0 halftime lead, and Josh Moffett, who would finish with 109 yards rushing, secured the win with two third quarter TD runs.  Again, the Bolivar defensive backs held Doriel Green in check allowing him only 5 catches for 36 yards.  Bolivar moves on to face…
  • Webb City 41, Carthage 14
    • The Cardinals scored on their first four possessions and that was more than enough for their defense.  Patrick Drake was the star with five rushing TD, 153 yards rushing, 107 yards passing, and a 35 yard TD pass.  Five Carthage turnovers only aided the Cardinals as they ran out to a 21-0 first quarter lead.  Carthage rallied scoring a late second quarter TD to pull within 28-14 at the half.  But they would not score again as Webb City rolls on.

CLASS 5

  • Nixa 42, Camdenton 0
    • What a difference from the first meeting.  The Eagles just ran all over Camdenton on their home turf.  Jordan Keeney leads the way with 187 yards and two touchdowns as Nixa ran out to a 28-0 halftime lead, stopped Camdenton’s initial second half drive at the 1, then marched it 99 yards for a TD that put the turbo clock in play.  Tyler Christophel had 3 catches for 104 yards and 3 TDs.
  • Parkway North 38, Rolla 35 (4 OT)
    • What a heart breaker this was.  The Bulldogs rushed for 371 yards as they overcame a 21-7 third quarter score to tie the game with 55 seconds left.  Both team were scoreless in the first OT.  Both team scored in the second and third OT.  Finally in the fourth overtime period, North converted a field goal attempt.  While Rolla’s kick bounced off the crossbar.  Jonny Canhos ran for 200 yards and 2 TDs for Rolla.  Jacob Morris rushed for the tying touchdown and both overtime scores in addition to going 8 for 9 passing.
  • Raytown South 35, Ozark 13
    • Just too many offensive weapons for Ozark to deal with.  After the Cardinals jumped to a 14-0 lead, Ozark cut it to 14-7 on a Jason Gladfelder TD run.  Then after another Raytown score, closed to 21-13 as Gladfelder scored again.   But that was all the scoring for the Tigers on the evening and Raytown responded with a kickoff returned for a score.  The only scoring in the second half was Cardinal QB Dennis Tanner tossing his third TD pass of the evening to make the margin comfortable for his squad.  Excellent year for the Tigers comes to an end at the hands of an excellent team.
