    Show-Me Showdown Friday updates

    By Joboo | March 14, 2008

11:10 PM - A long & thoroughly frustrating day for the Ozarks comes to an end. Harrisburg breaks the 13th tie of the game by closing the game on a 12-6 run to beat Clever 73-67. The Blue Jays closed to within 2 with 31 seconds left, but Harrisburg hit their free throws down the stretch to preserve the win. Rebounding was the name of the game as Harrisburg dominated on both ends to the tune of 36-21. That led to 15 second chance points for Harrisburg to Clever’s 4. Jeremy Dresslaer & Bryce Huddleston both finish with 21 points for the Blue Jays. With Josh Pope adding 19.  Josh Taylor led Harrisburg with 21. Clever will face West Platte in the 3rd place game tomorrow at 9:30 to close out the 2008 Show-Me Showdown.

10:05 PM - Last weekend the Ozarks went 3-1 in taking a state title and a 3rd place finish. No hope for that kind of winning percentage this weekend. Ozarks teams are 1-5 so far & will have to win out the weekend to reach .500. So far Clever is doing their part as they lead Harrisburg at the half 38-37. But with 9 ties & 9 lead changes in the first half there’s a long way to go. Jeremy Dresslaer has 14 points to lead Clever. Josh Pope & Bryce Huddleston both have 10.

8:00 PM - Westran 51, Crane 42. For 24 minutes of the game Crane was the best team on the floor. But the other 8 minutes decided the contest. Down by 4 with under 2 minutes left in the 3rd, Westran went on a 16-2 run that extended into the fourth and sealed the win. Crane did a good job on all-stater Kayla Rice from the field, holding her to 4 of 16 shooting. But the 4 were all 3 pointers to go along with her 9 of 10 performance at the free throw line giving her 21 points. The Lady Pirates got the secondary scoring they needed to win with Kenzie Rowe netting 14 & Timbo Barrett getting 7. But Miranda Vaught was cooled off scoring 9 points on only 10 shots. A good game from Crane but they fall to the 3rd place game tomorrow at 7:50 PM against Clopton who lost to undefeated Penney 65-50.

12:10 PM - Back later tonight with updates of the Crane girls game.

Noon - Scott County 83, Fair Play 58. The Braves were just too much for the Hornets. They came out aggresive right from the start as usual & blitzed Fair Play running out to a lead of 34-12 just over 3 minutes into the second quarter. Coach Cookson knows how to prepare his team for these games & prepared they were. SCC used their speed & pressure to force 23 turnovers and get 13 steals. In addition the Braves shot an even 50% for the game. Daniel Durst put in 16 points for the Hornets who end a great year at 28-4. Alex Hannah added 10 points including 2 of 2 from downtown. And Jordan Sukovaty grabbed 12 rebounds.

11:20 AM - Same song second verse. Scott County Central 42, Fair Play 22 at the half.

10:30 AM - Two teams reacting to two different results from yesterday’s action. Obviously still reeling from their loss to Cairo, the Lady Pirates looked beat from the opening jump as they missed their first 21 shots from the field to start the game. Meadville was led by Kaci Sargent who had 18 points and 21 rebounds. 9 on the offensive glass. For Macks Creek, Toria Blecher had 11 points to lead the scoring. A fine season for the Lady Pirates ends on a bit of a down note. But a 22-8 record and a trip to Columbia would be accepted by most teams in the state. Congrats to the Lady Pirates.

10:00 AM - Not an auspicious start to the day for the Ozarks. The latest repost has Macks Creek trailing Meadville by 17 in the third.

It was a tough day yesterday for the Ozarks, but there’s no crying in basketball. At least there shouldn’t be. And we have 4 games on the schedule today starting with the first 2 of the day. The Macks Creek girls take on Meadville at 9 AM for 3rd place. Meadville is coming off it’s first loss of the season yesterday & should be tough. Next is Fair Play, looking to rebound from being outplayed by Glasgow, playing for 3rd against Scott County Central at 10:40 AM. We’ll step away until dinnertime, 6:10 PM to be exact, when the Crane girls get their shot at #1 ranked Westran. Finally the Clever boys close out today’s session starting at 9:30 PM with a matchup against 26-3 Harrisburg. It’s gonna be a long day, but it’s sure to be fun.
