    Show-Me Showdown Saturday updates

    By Joboo | March 15, 2008

Midnight - Clever 67, West Platte 33.  The Blue Jays took command midway through the second period & then closed the game on a 26-2 run to win third place.  The big difference was free throws.  Clever shot 29 and made 24, while West Platte only shot 6 the entire game.  Josh Pope goes off for 31 points to almost single-handedly outscore West Platte.  Bryce Huddleston added 16 points & 9 rebounds to the cause.  So a good trip to Columbia for Clever & a great season all the way around.  Congrats to the Blue Jays.

9:25 PM - Clopton 59, Crane 54. A very evenly matched game statistically wasn’t close on the scoreboard. Crane took the initial lead 2-0, but never led again. 3 point shooting was the difference as Clopton hit 8 to Crane’s 2. After having their lead trimmed to within a single possession on a couple of occasions, Clopton pushed the lead to 11 in the fourth before the Lady Pirates pulled back to within 3. But Clopton hit enough foul shots down the stretch to hold off the rally and Crane becomes the third Ozarks team to finish fourth this weekend. Miranda Vaught scored 19 to lead Crane with Morgan Cope getting 13 and Jade Bowling 11. Crane finishes the season 22-8 with their first trip to the Show-Me Showdown. A fine season for the Lady Pirates.

2:45 PM - Skyline wins it’s 5th state title 44-43 over South Shelby. Now that’s one the Ozarks can be proud of. Just a tremendous contest. 12 ties, 7 lead changes, & no lead bigger than 3 from the 4:08 mark of the 1st quarter on. No lead bigger than 7 period. Clutch free throw shots from both sides in the last minute. And a big defensive play to clinch it. Fantastic. Jill Berry & Jenna Mueller helped South Shelby hold the lead most of the first half as both had 9 points. But Deidra Parks also had 9 for Skyline to keep them in it until the rest of the Lady Tigers came alive to take a brief lead. Halftime showed South Shelby in the lead by only 2. The second half was the definition of back & forth with 8 ties & 4 lead changes. With 30 seconds left, Erin Mayes stepped to the line & stroked home 2 free throws to give the Lady Cardinals a 43-42 lead. But with 18.1 seconds left, freshman Ashley Roberts was fouled. And with the championship on the line hit both free throws to put the Lady Tigers on top. Then she made the clinching steal on an inside pass. After a missed Skyline free throw, South Shelby’s desperation heave was well short & the Lady Tigers had championship #5. Skyline shot 45.9% from the field for the game, including 52.9% in the second half, while holding the Lady Cardinals to just 35.3% shooting for the game. Parks & Emily Reyes had 11 points each to Lead Skyline. Kristi Wilkerson chipped in with 10. Great season for the Lady Tigers & Coach Kevin Cheek. Congratulations. You’ve done SW Mo proud.
