Show-Me Showdown Thursday updates
By Joboo | March 13, 2008
6:30 PM - And Skyline salvages the day for Ozarks pride. After allowing Metro to shoot 45.5% in the first half, the Lady Tigers clamped down & held Metro to 30.4% as they rallied for the win. After trailing by 10 to end the first quarter, Skyline slowly clawed their way back into the game finally taking their first lead with just under 5 minutes left in the game. They relinquished it 24 seconds later & didn’t retake it until only 2 minutes remained. They closed the game on an 11-3 run fed by forcing 5 turnovers, getting 3 steals, & 2 blocks in the 4th. Metro’s Jasmine Cooper, who poured in 14 points in the first half, only had 5 in the second. While the Lady Tigers placed 3 players in double figures. Maci Wisdom led the way with 15, with Emily Reyes & Kristi Wilkerson each scoring 10. Handling Metro’s pressure was the key for Skyline. After committing 4 turnovers in the first quarter and 2 seconds, Skyline only registered 3 the remainder of the game. Devoid of points off turnovers, Skyline maintained control the rest of the way. The championship game awaits Saturday at 12:20 PM for the Lady Tigers.
5:05 PM - Are we looking at a sweep of the Ozarks teams today? Skyline will have to come back to prevent it. At the half, St. Louis Metro 23, Skyline 17. Maci Wisdom has 5 points to lead the Lady Tigers, and Jasmine Cooper has 14 for Metro.
3:45 PM - And the Ozarks is 0-2 for the day. Glasgow 54, Fair Play 42 is your final. The Hornets play SCC at 10:40 tomorrow for 3rd place. Lee finished with 32 points & 11 rebounds for Glasgow. Daniel Durst had 15 & Jordan Sukovaty 14 for Fair Play. The Hornets just couldn’t get their shooting on track hitting 36.6% for the game. And Ben Meyer’s 13 points forced Fair Play’s defense to stay honest and allowed Lee to be free to play his game. No one area really glares from the stats. The Yellow Jackets were just a bit better across the board.
3:30 PM - Glasgow had the halftime lead 28-22 over Fair Play. And at last report had expanded that to 34-24 midway through the third. Glasgow was a 2 man show in the first half with Jay Lee getting 15 and Ben Meyer 11. The winner will get Jefferson who put the first Show-Me Showdown loss of his career on the legendary Ronnie Cookson by beating Scott County Central 70-68.
12:25 PM - Cairo 68, Macks Creek 61. Brandie Roberts scores 41 for the Lady Cats, but ultimately it was their defense that won the game for them. Four turnovers & 3 steals led to 21 fourth quarter points as they came back from 12 down to force overtime. In OT, it was back and forth with both teams grabbing the advantage then yielding it before Heather Brown hit the 2 free throws with 3 seconds left to force double overtime. And then the Lady Pirates shooting touch left the building as they missed all 7 of their shots. A fantastic game & fantastic effort from the Lady Pirates. Toria Blecher finishes with 20 points, & Kyla Rice 17 for the Lady Pirates who will face Meadville at 9 AM tomorrow for 3rd place.
12:10 PM - Double overtime. Macks Creek hits 2 free throws with 3 seconds left to tie it at 61 each & give us more bonus basketball. Brandie Roberts has 36 points.
11:55 AM - Cairo rallies, ties the game at 50 with 20 seconds left & we’re going to overtime. The Lady Pirates need to come out strong as Cairo has all the momentum on their side right now.
11:45 AM - Macks Creek 37, Cairo 31 at the end of the third period.
11:25 AM - Halftime at Mizzou Arena & the Lady Pirates have had a great first half. They lead the Cairo Lady Cats 30-19. Kayla Rice has 12 points for Macks Creek to match the 12 of Cairo’s Brandie Roberts. Macks Creek’s Toria Blecher also has 6 points.
10:20 AM - Final. Delta 49, Meadville 39.
9:35 AM - For those of you who are interested, and I know at least one person who is, Delta leads the Meadville girls at the half 28-17. Come on Tony.
