    Early basketball tourney info

    As we get into the basketball season, we’ll have plenty of coverage of the well known tournaments.  The Tournament of Champions, Kaminsky Classic, Blue & Gold, and Neosho Holiday Tournament are well know and get a lot of coverage.  But courtesy of a reader, here’s some information on some early season tournaments you’ll want to catch that should provide a great early read on some teams.

    The Republic Tournament Dec 1-6 featuring Carl Junction, Hillcrest, Republic, and Rogers, AR.  The Parkview Basketball Classic with host Parkview taking on Missouri teams Park Hill, Hickman Mills, and Don Bosco Prep from New Jersey.  And the 9th Annual Kickapoo Tip-Off Classic with local squads Kickapoo, Ozark, and Chadwick facing off against teams from Missouri, Arkansas, and Tennessee.

    And later, on January 22-24, at the Glendale Winter Classic, Glendale takes on a host of teams from outside the area.  Including Poplar Bluff, Warrensburg, Leavenworth, KS, and New Rochelle, NY.

    Here’s all the details provided.  Mark these on your calendar and catch some great high school hoops.

    Ninth Annual Kickapoo Tip-Off Classic
    Springfield, Missouri
    December 4th-6th, 2008

    Press Release

    The 9th annual Kickapoo Basketball Classic will tip off another great season
    of high school basketball in the Ozarks. All the teams feature top players
    and many are destined to play at the next level. A championship will be a huge
    challenge and the fans will be in for some top of the line games. Let’s play
    ball!!

    Evangelical Christian-Cordova, TN

    The Evangelical Christian Eagles are returning to the Tip-Off Classic for a
    third time and veteran coach Terry Tippet will field a strong team. The
    Eagles finished 3rd in the state last season and look to be even stronger this
    year. Evangelical Christian is led by 6′7″ senior Terrance Stringfellow who is
    being recruited by Air Force, Tennessee Tech and others. The Eagles also
    feature Jonathan Milewski, a 3 point shooting star and 5′11″ guard Micah Givins.
    Evangelical Christian will be good.

    Fayetteville High School-Arkansas

    The purple Bulldogs coached by Barry Gebhart will make their 9th appearance
    in the Classic and will return Fred Gulley, an Oklahoma State signee. Gulley
    is a top player and will be supported by 6′7″ senior Cable Hogue and 6′2″
    junior Taylor Cochran. Fayetteville finished 3rd in the state of Arkansas last
    season and look to be even stronger this year. The Purple Bulldogs will be a
    contender for the championship.

    Har-Ber Springdale, AR

    Har-Ber returns to the Classic for the second time and the class act from
    Springdale will be competitive. Coach Eric Burnett will field a squad that
    includes All-Conference player Taylor Sites, 5′10″ guard, Joe Perry, 6′7″
    center, 5′9″ Mason Clinkscales, and 6′3″ Tata Lane. The returning players give
    Har-Ber depth and experience.

    Liberty High School-Liberty

    The Liberty Bluejays coached by Roger Stirtz will be in the Classic for the
    9th time and as always, will be a team that will challenge for a
    championship. The class act of Coach Stirtz includes Kevin Starr a 6′1″ sharpshooter who
    was the MVP of their conference last season. The Bluejays 6′6″ Shaun Adams
    and 6′2″ Tyler Sullivant will be a load for their opponents. Liberty will be
    a strong challenge for opposing teams.

    St. Joe Lafayette High School

    The St. Joe Lafayette Fightin Irish enter the Classic for the first time
    and will challenge Kickapoo on the opening night. Coach Chris Neff led his
    St. Joe team to a district championship last season (their first in 23 years)
    and returns 3 starters back from that team. Bryston Williams 6′2″ was All
    Conference and All District and is supported by 6′0″ Taylor Deayon and 5′11″
    Cody Miller. Welcome the Irish and Coach Neff to the Kickapoo Classic.

    Chadwick High School

    The Chadwick Cardinals of Coach Terry Jester enters the Kickapoo Classic for
    the first time. The Cardinals finished 24-5 last season and the
    state-quarterfinalist squad returns four starters led by All-State 5′10″ Shaun Thomas.
    Patrick Holt 5′10″, Aaron Phillips 5′10″ and Nathan Hale 5′10″ return with
    Thomas to give Coach Jester a deadly shooting, scrappy bunch, ready to take
    on the big schools. Welcome Chadwick, Coach Jester, the team and their fans.

    Ozark High School

    The Ozark Tigers of Coach Steve Hunter will be a strong contender to take a
    championship trophy home. The district champions of last year return
    All-Ozarks player, 6′5″ Jordan Knuckles and he is supported by returning starters 6′5″
    Tom Ligon and shooting starts Isaiah Monroe and Seth Arnold. Coach Hunter’s
    teams are always well-coached and play a hard, up-tempo game. The Tigers
    from Christian County will be a load for all opponents.

    Kickapoo High School-Springfield

    The Chiefs finished 23-5 last season but Hall of Fame Coach Roy M. Green
    returns only one starter in 6′1″ Alex Hall. The Chiefs will compete with
    seniors 6′4″ Marcus Crigler, 6′5″ Jordan Buckley, 6′3″ Kris Pierce, 6′3″
    Brennan Wingert and 6′5″ Scottie Blakeslee. The Chiefs will work hard to defend
    their Classic title.
