    State class 3 & 4 baseball finals

    By Joboo | June 1, 2008

The high school sports season comes to a brilliant, triumphant end as the Ozark Tigers claim the last championship of the year defeating the Francis Howell Vikings in dramatic fashion 3-2 to claim the state class 4 baseball championship. Matt Jordan was the hero for Ozark throwing the complete game, getting 3 hits, and driving in the winning run.

After surrendering 2 first inning runs, Jordan shut the Vikings down scattering 4 hits the rest of the way.  The biggest threat came in the top of the sixth with Ozark down 2-1.  The Vikings put runners on second and third with 2 outs.  But Jordan induced a ground out which cleared the way for the comeback.

With one out and a runner on first, Corey Wiley doubled to right field to drive home the tying run.  The next batter flied out to center.  Then with 2 outs, Jordan helped himself with a bloop single to left.  Wiley hustled home to give Ozark the lead.  The Vikings went in order in the seventh with Jordan striking out the last batter to set off the celebration.

It’s the second state championship for the Tigers and their first since moving to class 4.

In the class 3 title game, Webb City came up short falling 8-0 to St. Dominic who simply steamrolled through the final four scoring 33 runs in their two games.  The Cardinals could only manage 5 hits on the afternoon, and Crusaders pounded out 13 scoring in 5 innings.  Webb City finishes the year with a 24-6 record and a second place finish.
