State golf championships first round

Day 1 of the state golf championships and so far the story is Kickapoo. The Chiefs, who finished 3rd in their district and qualified for the team competition by virtue of 4 players qualifying individually, are leading in class 4 by 3 strokes over Ozark and Park Hill South. Nine teams in all are within 18 strokes of Kickapoo so there is much work to be done on day 2.
Ash Grove had a strong first day in search of their third straight state title. The lead second place Bishop LeBlond by 15 strokes and third place Catholic by 21
Ozarks golfers hold the individual lead in 3 of the 4 classes after the first day. J.D. Nash of Newburg holds a 1 stroke lead in class 1. Ash Grove’s Jordan Dickson and Jace Long of Dixon stand tied atop the class 2 leaderborad at one under and seem poised for a second day shootout. And Kickapoo’s Dillon Maloney shoots a 1 under par 71 to share the first day lead in class 4. But lurking are Kevin Kring of Central at 72, Brian Steele of Glendale at 73, and Rolla’s Will Baylor and Tim Wagaman of Ozark are at 75.
Tee times for tomorrow are 8:00 for classes 1, 3, and 4, and 8:30 for class 2.
