State Soccer Semifinal Updates

2:25 - And it’s a final.  Catholic knocks off the #1 team in the state 3-0 and moves on to the state championship game tomorrow at 4 o’clock.  Awaiting them in the final will be either KC St. Pius X who they defeated in last years third place game, or Whitfield who has won five of the last seven state championships.

1:48 – 3-0 Catholic as Adam Entrup scores in the 69th minute.  They’re surely moving on now.

1:34 – Catholic up 2-0 with 17 minutes remaining.

1:17 – Latest report from Catholic/JFK has it 2-0 at the half.

1:13 – Here’s the details on the winning goal.  Bradley Stillwagon gets the score in the 93rd minute with a header off a Matt Magana flip throw-in.  The Liberators will play at noon tomorrow on the same field against the winner of 21-5 (and defending state champion) St. Dominic and 14-4-1 Helias.  Those two teams last met in the 2008 state championship game which St. Dominic won 2-1.

1:09 – Nothing new on Catholic’s game with state #1 John F. Kennedy.  2-0 at last report 15 minutes into the first half.

1:02 – Bolivar wins 2-1!  They advance to their first championship game.  More details in a bit.

12:41 – Overtime for Bolivar and Notre Dame.  Still 1-1

12:38 – Bolivar’s defense clears a shot behind keeper Jordan Stanton to maintain the 1-1 tie.

12:35 – It’s getting late and Bolivar and Notre Dame are still tied 1-1.  Joe Froemsdorf scored the earlier goal for ND.  He also made the goal saving clearance just prior to that.

12:29 – Mitchell Waters ties it for Bolivar 1-1 off a corner kick.  The Liberators earned three successive corners and Mitchell made the Bulldogs pay on the third one.  Meanwhile, Catholic has jumped out to a 2-0 lead on goals by David Bailey and Justin Bowenschulte.

12:17 - Notre Dame 1, Bolivar 0.  54th minute.  The Bulldogs score after a Bolivar shot is cleared off the goaline.

Noon - Just underway in the second half of Bolivar’s game with Cape Girardeau Notre Dame and we’re scoreless.  Catholic is just getting started in their semifinal.  You can also get updates from Springfield Soccer’s Twitter feed.
