State soccer updates

YES!!!  Glendale moves on the the championship!  2-1 in double overtime over DeSmet(We’ve got girls!).  A historic win achieved by the Falcons.  The first Ozarks team to reach the large class final.  After falling behind in the 31st minute, Devon Newport tied the game in the 53rd on a 25 yard free kick.  It remained the way until the opening moments of the second OT when Ryan Squires rose and headed in a corner kick from Devon.  Falcon’s win!  They’ll take on Rockhurst, a 2-0 winner over McCluer North, at 7 PM tomorrow in the first ever class 3 final without a St. Louis team.  Springfield Soccer has all the details and will have pictures posted later.

Catholic falls in their state semifinal 2-1 to John Burroughs.  After a scoreless first half, Justin Bowenschulte gave the Irish the lead less than 2 minutes into the second.  David Bailey got an assist on the goal.  That lead held until the 58th minute when the Bombers tied the game up.  Eleven minutes later they scored the eventual game winner.  The official stats have Catholic being outshot 16-3 with Burroughs getting 8 corner kicks to none for Catholic.  A game effort, but the Irish will be in the third place game tomorrow against KC St. Pius X, a 3-1 loser to Trinity Catholic.  Game time is 10 AM tomorrow.
