State Volleyball Day 1 – Evening Updates

9:55 PM – And by the narrowest of margins, Rogersville falls to the third place game tomorrow.  Needing not only to win both of their sets, but also have O’Hara win both of theirs, the champs held up their end of the deal.  Sweeping Villa Duchesne 25-11, 25-20.  And Rogersville fought like champions as they rallied from a 21-19 deficit to win their first set 29-27.  The second set was another nail biter as the two team were never separated by more than 4 points.  Rogersville trailed 13-9 but closed the gap & tied numerous times even grabbing a lead at 20-19.  But ND would fend them off, retake the lead, and the Wildcats couldn’t get over the hump as they were finally closed out 26-24.  Great effort from Rogersville, but they’ll have to settle for a rematch with Notre Dame tomorrow in the 3rd place game.

8:55 PM – Now to catch up on Rogersville who is playing their last match right now.  Their evening started off rougher as the defending state champs, KC O’Hara, swept them 25-16, 25-14.  Their second match fortunes were better as the fought their way to a split with Villa Duchesne.  They dropped their first set 25-16 before finally getting a win 25-19 in the second.  At 1-3, the Lady Wildcats still have a shot to make the finals.  Villa stands at 2-2 and is playing O’Hara right now.  Rogersville is taking on 0-4 Cape Girardeau Notre Dame.  If they can win both sets and O’Hara sweeps Villa, they make the final.  I’ll update you soon.

8:50 PM -  Sorry for the delay folks.  Let’s catch up shall we.  Ozark is done for the night and they are in the championship game tomorrow night.  Their night started off with a split against Blue Springs.  The won the first set handily 25-15, and turned the second set into a classic before dropping it 29-27.  Next up was Incarnate Word Academy making their 21st appearance at the final four.  Ozark wasted no time in dispatching them winning both sets 25-19 and 25-21 to run their pool record to 3-1.  Combined with Blue Springs sweeping St. Joseph’s Academy, the Lady Tigers went into their final match against St. Joseph’s needing just a split to advance.  They took care of business right away winning the first set 25-19 to secure their spot.  They did drop the second set 25-22 but it had no effect as Ozark has their shot at the state title tomorrow.

4:05 PM – Big matches for both the area teams to start the day.  Ozark is taking on Blue Springs right now who they lost to earlier this year 2-1.  Defending state champion and favorite KC O’Hara awaits Rogersville at 5 PM in a rematch of last years class 4 state title game.  Back with updates at the completion of the match.
