3:00 PM – Yep, it’s official. Winona sweeps Lutheran 25-21, 25-12 to put their pool play record at 4-2 and move into the championship game tomorrow against Lesterville. That match will be at 1:30 PM tomorrow. Osceola suffers more hard luck and will play for third at 10:30 against KC Lutheran. We’ll be back later with updates from the evening sessions featuring Rogersville & Ozark.
2:50 PM – Lesterville takes the second set from Osceola also 25-21 in a hard fought affair. Still waiting on the Winona results but it’s been announced that it will be Lesterville & Winona in the final tomorrow.
2:25 PM - Osceola falls hard in the first set to Lesterville. The Bearcats win 25-14. The Lady Indians need a convincing win in the second set.
2:00 PM – Scott City takes the second set from College Heights also 25-10. A tough day for the Cougars but they’ll have their chance at third place tomorrow. They’ll face Maryville early at 9AM.
1:25 PM - Back from lunch and the latest news is that Winona and Osceola split their two sets. And it was good on points for both teams as Winona took the first set 25-23, Osceola the second 26-24. But it’s now very interesting with Osceola being 3-1, Lesterville 3-1 and Winona 2-2 with Osceola & Lesterville coming up. College Heights playing their last match of the day right now. They just finished the first set against Scott City and let a 17-15 lead get away and lost 25-18. They’re headed for the third place game tomorrow. We’ll be back with the last set score in just a bit.
11:55 AM – It looks like College Heights is a little shell shocked right now as Hermann sweeps them in their second match of the day 25-10, 25-12. Hermann is the defending state champ & is playing really well today having already swept Scott City last years runner up. The Cougars play next at 1 against Scott City. They have to win both to have any chance at the title game, but most likely they’re already bound for the third place match tomorrow.
11:30 AM – Finally have some updates from Kansas City. College Heights loses two in their first match with Maryville. The Spoofhounds (can their be a female spoofhound?) take both sets 25-22 and 25-21. Better news on the class 1 side as Osceola sweeps their first match with KC Lutheran 25-23, 25-18. Great start for the Lady Indians. Meanwhile, Winona split with a very good Lesterville squad winning the first set 25-16, and dropping the second 25-17.
8:30 AM – Welcome one and all to day 1 of the 2009 Missouri state volleyball championships. The first matches start in about a half hour and we’re scheduled to have two matches going continually until 3 PM this afternoon. We’ll take a break then start again at 4 PM and carry through until 9 PM tonight. Classes 1 and 2 play in the morning session. Classes 3 and 4 in the evening. We’ll be posting updates throughout the day. Ozarks squads Osceola & Winona in class 1, and College Heights in class 2 will be going this morning. We’ll be back with our first update at the completion of our first match, College Heights vs. 36-1 Maryville.
