All-Ozarks Soccer Team

I honestly was reluctant to even post this as I just didn’t know what to say.  So I’ll keep it simple with just three things.

The News-Leader released their 2008 All-Ozarks boy soccer team Saturday.
Congratulations to all the players selected.
Since they won’t do it, I’ll do it for them.  On behalf of the coaches that voted for [...]

2008 All-Ozarks Football Team

The News-Leader released their 2008 All-Ozarks Football team today.  You can view the entire first and second teams here.

As far as selections go, I won’t complain too much.  Only 2 Springfield players were included on the first team so it’s definitely not Springfield heavy.  A little light on the smaller schools as usual.  But Fair Grove’s Caleb Schaffitzel, Tyler Evans of Strafford, and Brandon Verfurth of Marionville give decent representation.  Only two minor complaints really.  1 – Not one player from the SCA.  With both Mountain Grove and Liberty having great years, someone should have been included.  2 – Only Ethan Leisenring makes it from Thayer as the 2nd team punter.  Somebody else from the Bobcats deserved a spot.  Other than that, it’s a decent list.

All-State Soccer

The all-state soccer teams were released yesterday.  See the links for the full teams at Springfield Soccer.

Nice honors for the area in class 3.  Glendale gets 3 picks including co-offensive player of the year Devon Newport and public school coach of the year Jeff Rogers.  Kickapoo has 2 players selected with goalie Chris Tombridge making first team.  While Rolla and Parkview each get a single selection.

Bolivar gets much recognition in class 2 with 4 all-state selections, 3 of which will be returning next year.  Defender Kyle Slagle joins Cassville’s lone selection, forward Uziel Franco, on the first team.  Monett gets an honorable mention pick.

2008 AP Class 4-6 All-State Football Teams

Dane Kolkmeyer get his due from the sportswriters by being picked for the class 6 all-state team.  The only Joplin player to be so honored.

In class 5, both Lebanon and Waynesville garner two selections.  Rolla sees RB Cameron Fore get selected.

And state champion Webb City caps their perfect year by having 7 players selected including 3 first teamers and coach of the year John Roderique.  Carthage get two selections.  Getting single selections were Bolivar, Branson, Neosho, and Republic.

Today we get the sportswriters all-state poll and it still brings great recognition to the Ozarks.

Cassville leads the way in class 3 with 4 first team selections, a second team, and coach David Large being named coach of the year.  Monett gets 3 players selected.  And Mt. Vernon, Mountain Grove, Rogersville, and Salem each have one pick.

In class 2, both Fair Grove and Liberty get two players selected.  Strafford and Lamar pick up 1 each.

Thayer matches Cassville’s number in class 1 getting 5 picks.  Miller picks up 3 selections and Greenfield 2.  Lockwood, Marionville, and McAuley get 1 a piece

2008 Class 6 All-State Football Team

I’m going to assume that Joplin head coach Doug Buckmaster is not a member of coaches association.  Because otherwise, I have a real big complaint about no one from Joplin being selected for the all-state team.

If you want to say that TJ Moe and Blaine Dalton deserve the 2 QB spots over Devin St. Clair, I won’t argue.  Although there is a case to be made for St. Clair.  But I cannot believe that there are 4 wide receivers more deserving than record-setting Eagle Dane Kolkmeyer.  All Kolkmeyer did this year was set 4 state receiving records including yards receiving and receptions, and did it in a 10 game season as opposed to 14 games for the reception record and 11 games for the yards record.  And in their three games against fellow class 6 opponents in districts, Kolkmeyer had a combined 459 yards receiving and 4 touchdown catches, not counting a 69 yarder that was called back against Rockhurst.

2008 Class 5 All-State Football Team

Despite a sub-par year by recent standards, the Ozarks still has good representation on the class 5 all-state team.  Lebanon cashes in on their breakout season by getting 3 first team offense selections.  Record setting QB Ryan Howerton, TE Phillip Archer, and Mizzou signee OL Justin Britt.  Waynesville also garners a trio of selections with BJ Ray on the first team.  Camdenton and Rolla each pick up one selectee.

Good representation from the Ozarks on the class 2 all-state team.  The area teams place players on the first team including Fair Grove’s Caleb Schaffitzel and Strafford’s Tyler Evans.  Fair Grove leads the way with 3 first-teamers and 6 selections overall.  4 players were picked from Liberty, all on the 3rd team.  Lamar gets 2 picks with Strafford and Skyline each placing one.

Thayer deservedly grabs a huge presence on the Class 1 all-state team.  5 first team players including offensive player of the year Jacob Eckman, 8 players overall, and 9 positions covered as Ethan Leisenring gets selected at 2 positions.  Greenfield nabs 6 all-state selections.  McAuley and Miller each get 3 players selected, with McAuley’s Rocky Spry doing double duty at both DB and kick returner.  And Lockwood gets one pick to round out the area selections.
