Opposite results for a couple of undefeated girls teams last night.  Couch remains unbeaten by pounding Koshkonong in Thayer tournament 66-16.  But New Covenant drops their first game of the year 46-44 to Reeds Spring in the Galena Lady Bear Classic.

For the game of the night, we go all the way to Iberia where the Richland Bears trailed rival Dixon at the half by 10, 37-27.  But the Bears came out red hot in the second half scoring 65 in the final two quarters to come from behind and win 92-80.

The finish of the night goes to the Lebanon/Rolla contest.  In a low-scoring affair, Lebanon trailed 31-29 until Kylie Dudley hit the only 3-pointer of the night for either team at the buzzer to give the Yellowjackerts the 32-31 win.

And individual performance of the night goes to Houston’s Kyle Poynter who poured in 47 in the Tigers 89-72 win over Naylor in the opening round of the Liberty tournament.

Tournament action shifted to the west side last night with both the Carthage Lady Tiger Classic and Kaminsky Classic kicking off.  But only one local west side team came out on top, that being the Carthage girls who beat Nevada 40-23.  The Nixa girls held off Webb City 61-54 despite Kaitlin Jaeger’s 23 pts.  But in the Kaminsky Classic, the area went 0-4 as Joplin, Carl Junction, Webb City, and Neosho all fell.

In other action, the Hillcrest girls got a big win defeating Glendale 63-59 in overtime.  Kaley Lyons lead all scorers with 22 but the Lady Hornet defense forced 4 straight turnovers after falling behind in the OT to grab the lead and secure the win.

And Kevin O’Keefe of McAuley banked in a 3 at the end of regulation to send the Warriors into overtime with Jasper.  In the OT O’Keefe scored 7 of his 25 points to lead McAuley to the 58-54 win.  Isaac Tidball had 28 for the Eagles. Continue reading 1/8/09 scores
