2010 Missouri Challenge Cup Schedule & Rosters

Here they are.  The full rosters for both the boys and girls teams in this year’s Missouri Challenge Cup.  As well as the seeds.

On the girls side, the Southwest team, composed entirely of Ozarks players, is seeded first.  The Central team, coached by Skyline’s Kevin Cheek and featuring Jordan Garrison of Osceola is seeded seventh.  While the South Central team, with Jessica Parker of Climax Springs and Lanicia Lawrence of Waynesville, is seeded eighth.

The defending champs on the boys side, the Southwest squad, is seeded fourth this year with John Schaefer of Hillcrest at the helm.  Andre Hilbert of Laquey, our player of the year, is on the seventh seeded South Central team.

I’ll have the game schedule posted next week.  Quarterfinals are Friday the 28th with semis & championships on the 29th.

Missouri Challenge Cup - SW Girls Team

The first team released on the girls side of the Missouri Challenge Cup just happens to be the Southwest Missouri squad.  A great pair of coaches in Nixa’s Jim Middleton and Sparta’s Jerry Songer.  They each bring a pair of players having state championship experience with Allison Stevens and Kayla Coffer from Sparta, and Bethanie Funderburk and Emily Walker of Nixa.  Kickapoo is well represented by Makenzie Smith and Casey Carroll.  Of the remaining five players, four are from class 2 schools (Bridget Hanafin of Clever, Hannah Wilkerson from Miller, Hartville’s Maggie Arnall, and Whitney Mills of Thayer) and one (Bailey Irvine of Hillcrest) is from a class 5.

That’s a great lineup that has a great task ahead of them to equal or better last year’s result.

2008-09 basketball year in review

Since we’re halfway through baseball season, I thought I’d better do our basketball review before it gets totally lost.  We’ll always remember this as the year of the ladies in the Ozarks as every state championship game features a team from SW Mo.  The Nixa Lady Eagles, Exeter Lady Tigers, and Sparta Lady Trojans each bring home state titles with Sparta running the table at a perfect 31-0.  Joining those three in the Show-Me Showdown finals were the Webb City Lady Cardinals & Skyline Lady Tigers who saw their quest to repeat as champs come up 1 point short.  Columbia was crowded with Ozarks teams.  The Bakersfield, Couch, and Fair Grove girls made the trip.  As did the Chadwick, Laquey, Miller, and Blue Eye boys.  The Blue & Gold was great.  The Tournament of Champions was incredible.  And we were treated to one of the best all around basketball seasons ever.

A couple of explanations before we continue.  This year I’m naming a team & MVP for each class.  I define MVP as the person who has the biggest impact on their team.  In other words, take that player off the team and what is the effect?  Player of the year is based solely on basketball accomplishments regardless of class.  Who did the best relative to their competition.  And game of the year means a game between two Ozarks teams.  So you won’t see Central beating Rock Bridge listed.  With that, here’s some notable moments from the 08-09 basketball season, our All-OzarksSports teams, and a list of seniors that we say ‘Good bye’ and ‘Thank you’ to.
