A couple of rivalry games went different directions last night. Mt. Vernon cruised past Aurora 56-29. The Lady Mountaineers jumped out to a 26-9 halftime lead and added to that as they went along to get the Big 8 victory. While Kickapoo took control of the Ozark Conference race with a 55-50 overtime win over Glendale. Casey Carroll had 20 to lead the Lady Chiefs. The Mid-Lakes girls race stayed wild as Lauren McCurry’s 28 points helped Pleasant Hope get past Fair Grove 49-48. Webb City continued their roll with a 60-53 win over Ozark behind Kaitlin Jaeger’s 24 points. And the big performance of the night goes to Carl Junction’s Lauren McRae who scored 34 points and grabbed 10 rebounds in the Lady Bulldogs 66-34 win over Lamar. BASKETBALL GIRLS Varsity
It’s a night for overtime on the boys side as three games see bonus basketball. Marshfield needs every one of Utah Findley’s 28 points and Jared Greenlee’s 24 to down Catholic 63-61 in OT. State ranked Spokane recovers from a furious Clever rally to win in extra period 66-60 behind Dylan Price’s 29 points. Fair Play continues their strong season with an extra period 69-61 win over Morrisville. And Pierce City and Lockwood enjoyed playing each other so much they decided to go two extra periods before the Eagles win 62-60. One game that didn’t go into overtime may serve as the coming out party for one of the underrated boys players I mentioned earlier today. Richland’s Pat Poston scored 40 tonight as the Bears downed Macks Creek 105-78. BASKETBALL BOYS Varsity

Some great matchups of top level teams last night. Starting on the girls side with Mt. Vernon traveling to Stockton. The Lady Tigers were on a roll coming into this game having beaten Skyline handily. But it wasn’t to be as the Lady Mountaineers take the 60-43 road win. On the boys side, great finishes in a number of important games. Spokane knocked off Strafford 47-45 despite Conner Wilson’s 25 points. Jeremy Dresslaer scored 32 to lead Clever to a 64-59 win over Pleasant Hope. In a matchup of Blue and Gold division winners, Branson defeats Ozark 73-60. Avery Dingman had 29 for the Pirates. A rising Willard team defeats Webb City 50-49. And Neosho overcame a 22-4 deficit to rally and defeat Republic in overtime 58-56 as Corey Crandall hit 2 free throws with 4.5 seconds left for the winning margin. Finally, on the wrestling mat, Waynesville gets a big win defeating state ranked Rolla 33-27. And in a clash of state ranked teams, it was no contest as #1 Neosho crushed #8 Carl Junction 67-9. Other champions crowned already tonight. Branson wins the Blue division 66-51 over Nixa. Mt. Vernon wins the Pink & White beating West Plains 49-29. And Norwood defeats Dora to win the Cabool Tournament. The Walnut Grove boys championship, the Richland title game, and the U.S. Bank final are all under way with the Gold division game soon to tip. Webb City is the only area team to find the winners circle on the final day of the KTXR Lady Classic. The Lady Cardinals rebounded from their loss to Kickapoo to blast Lexington Catholic 62-26 in the 3rd place game. Glendale lost a heartbreaking 7th place game 53-52 to Shawnee Mission East. Nixa almost upended Midwest City in the 5th place game. But two Richa Jackson free throws sealed the win for the Bombers 52-50. And in a game just completed, Wheeling, IL hangs on to win 50-44 over Kickapoo. The Lady Chiefs were down 13 at the half but whittled the lead down until they were down 5 with 2 and a half minutes to play. But couldn’t get any closer. Great effort from Kickapoo and a deserved second place finish. Neosho Holiday Classic What a day yesterday. Four games at the Blue and Gold. Then the KTXR Lady Classic first round with Webb City’s 65-62 overtime win over Midwest City capping off a tremendous day. Here’s a few thoughts from each game before we get to the scores.
