And here’s the final all-state team. Class 1 where dynamic pitcher Katie Shockley of Crocker is the only area first team pick. Both Norwood and Weaubleau got a pair of underclassmen on the second team. For Norwood, juniors Ashlynn Chadwell at catcher and Jordan Gray at third base made it. For Weaubleau, junior pitcher Callie Weant and freshman catcher Dana Graves. Congratulations to all the area players honored! First Team Pitchers
The Couch Lady Indians go to 16-0 and get a big win 57-49 over Micah Stevens and Thayer to win the championship of the Thayer Winter Classic. Tara Combs scored 19 to lead Couch with Whitney Mills netting 18. On the boys side, Branson goes to 2-0 in the Webb City Classic dropping the host team 70-48 behind Mike Wiebe’s 23 points. And Neosho picks off Mt. While the final score was lopsided with the Cardinals winning 74-41, it was entertaining throughout. Chadwick’s relentless pressure was just too much for Everton to handle forcing 25 turnovers. Thomas lead all scorers with 24 pts and teammate Aaron Phillips kicked in 22. Gladden ended up with 21 despite struggling from free throw line and having to fight for every basket. They very well may see each other again in districts, but this round goes to the Cards. And Hillcrest’s time on top of the Springfield basketball scene is short lived as Glendale drops them 65-62. Casey Goss hits 6 threes to help the Falcons overcome a 7 point deficit to start the fourth. Trey Starks adds 17 and Hillcrest’s Derek Chaney nets 20. BASKETBALL |
