Regional football review

It was almost a perfect night to be an eagle on the gridiron.  4 out of 5 Eagle teams playing won including Pierce City knocking off undefeated Warsaw.  Fair Grove, Mt. View-Liberty, and Nixa also soared to wins.  Only Jasper falls from the feathered football ranks.

Enough with the bird puns.  A great night of football for Ozarks teams.  Some last minute finishes, huge performances, a big upset, 11 teams say goodbye to another football season, and 19 are still alive.

CLASS 1

  • Thayer 36, Lockwood 21
    • This game was 22-21 with just over 4 minutes left and would have been tied but for a missed Lockwood XP.  But a score, an interception, and another TD secured the win.  Cameron Carey was the wrecking ball for the Bobcats rushing for 232 yards and three TDs.  Josh Huckabee added 100+ rushing yards also.  Reports put Lockwood QB Blake Abbiatti at over 350 yards passing.  I’ll update this when I can verify.

Week 7 review

I think it’s safe to say we had the upset of the year this weekend.  I had Greenfield/Lockwood on my ‘Games to keep an eye on’ list, but only thought it would be closer than expected.  Lebanon has found the power switch after a slow start to the season.  They’ll need it going into a district that features undefeated Rolla, a Camdenton team that is lethal when on, and a Waynesville squad that has one two of their last three.  Webb City & Cassville look to be in great form to defend their titles, Mountain Grove may have found the springboard they need to get them to the Dome, and our favorite Eagle continues to soar.  All in this weeks hermetically sealed version of…

Week 6 picks

A super week of action this week.  Huge matchups with Mountain Grove traveling to Bolivar, Greenfield going to Jasper, and Branson taking on Carthage.  Huge conference games with Salem at Mt. View-Liberty, Neosho at Webb City, Pierce City at Miller, Hillcrest at Lebanon, and Camdenton at Nixa.  And the huge district gets underway with class 5 district 7 action between Ozark and Parkview, and Kickapoo and Glendale.

No jokes this week folks.  Here’s the…

Week 6 Picks

Game of the Week

  • Mountain Grove (4-1) (#8 class 3) at Bolivar (5-0) (#3 class 4)
    • On the surface, this appears to be a matchup of offensive powers.  The Panthers average just over 30 ppg, while Bolivar goes for over 40.  The names are on the offensive side.  Evan Williams and Chris Mathews for Mountain Grove.  Josh Moffett, Alex Talley, and Kolton Peavy for Bolivar.  And it may ultimately be.  If neither defense asserts itself, this could be a shootout.  Bolivar is so balanced run to pass that no defense can key on any one area.  The Panthers have shown they can take charge of the ground and run all day.  But I think it’s more likely that one of the defenses does take control and generates a substantial second half lead for their team.  But who?  Mountain Grove is yielding just over 10 ppg and has two straight shutouts.  But gave up 36 to the best passing team they’ve seen so far, Mt. View-Liberty.  Bolivar’s D is averaging just over 14 ppg and seems to be improving.  But gave up an inexplicable 28 to Republic earlier this year.

OS.Net Question of the Week – 9/28/09

As we hit the halfway mark, this weeks question involves who has had the best season so far.  Lot’s of good candidates across the Ozarks.  Touchdown machine Caleb Schaffitzel covers both offense & defense for Fair Grove.  Christian Privett of #1 Monett.  Braxton Baker, one of many strong links for Webb City.  Maybe you like one [...]

Week 5 review

Just call me butter baby, because I am on a roll.  Only one ugly game this week and it truly was ugly as Rolla & Joplin slugged it out in the slop.  Other than that, I only missed close ones.  So, yes.  I am feeling better about myself.  I am somebody.  Wednesday we’ll debut the rankings for each class along with the undefeated & winless lists.  But rest assured, I’ll be studying hard to do even better this week in the meantime.

Because I’m not happy, until all the ugly is eliminated from…

The Good

  • Nixa (3-1) at Webb City (4-0) (#1 class 4)
    • Prediction: No matter who’s at QB, the Cardinals take it.
    • Result: Webb City 42, Nixa 21.  Braxton Baker & Maddy Johnson rush for 3 TDs each.  Patrick Drake returns to go 11 of 18 passing for 173 yards.

Week 3 picks

I need a comeback week after last weeks cavalcade of ugly picks.  This week is a little light on top line games.  Rogersville/Bolivar, Miller/Greenfield, and Mountain Grove/Mt. View-Liberty the headliners.  Lots of games that have serious conference consequences though.  I’ll be headed to Howell County to catch Mountain Grove & Liberty.  Don’t overlook the Higginsville/El Dorado Springs game.  Both are 2-0 and while there are still question marks about how good each is, it should be a great game.  And just remember, right now for a low low price of just $13.99, you can own your very own…

Week 3 Picks

Game of the Week

  • Rogersville (2-0) (#8 class 3) at Bolivar (2-0) (#3 class 4)
    • Bolivar just wants to keep doing what they’re doing.  Keep Josh Moffett scoring touchdowns, Kolton Peavey passing well, and Alex Talley picking off everything in sight.  The last may be the most difficult as Rogersville isn’t planning to throw much.  Especially if they can continue to run like they did last week against Branson going for 271 yards.  Dylan Cole scored on runs of 21 and 95 yards to lead the attack.  The Wildcats also need Colton Dill to truly be a multi-threat to keep the Liberator defense from keying in on one area.  If Bolivar can grab the early lead, they should win.  But if it stays close, I’d give Rogersville the advantage.

Week 2 picks

It’s a week to get some questions answered.  Such as “Just how good is (Branson, Carthage, Rogersville, Nixa)?”.  Or “Was the win by (Jasper, Cabool, Parkview) a fluke or are they ready for breakout seasons?”.  How about the ever popular “Surely (Camdenton, Hillcrest, Cassville, Ozark) is better than they looked in week one arent’ they?”.  I don’t know if we’ll have all the answers after tonight, but we’ll have more.  Some great games on tap tonight.  Nixa & Carthage clash to see who will be Webb City’s main challenger in the COC Large division.  Speaking of the Cardinals, I’ll be making the journey south of the border to watch them take on the Rogers Mounties while a few blocks over Parkview will be clashing with Heritage.  Thayer & Mountain Grove will be doing battle.  And Rogersville takes the drive down to Branson to take on the Pirates.  Here they are with no preservatives added…

2009 Spring River Valley Football Predictions

Four teams from the SRVC made the playoffs last year.  Lockwood and Pierce City both fell in the first round.  Miller advanced to the second round before hitting the Thayer roadblock again.  While Greenfield marched to the quarterfinals before they saw their season end.  Does Lockwood’s strong play at the end of last season signal good things for them?  Does Pierce City’s returning experience give them an edge on the championship?  Or will Greenfield and Miller battle for the top spot again? 2009 OzarksSports.Net Football preview

Is it just me, or does it seem like we were just in the dome last month?  My, time does fly when the pigskin isn’t flying.  Or does it take forever to get to next season?  I forget.  My father told me that the older I got the faster time would go by.  That being the case, I feel like I’m pushing 90 years old at this point.  And here’s your chance to kill some more time, because at this time, it’s now time for…
