Another News-Leader All-Ozarks team released today. The All-Ozarks soccer team. Springfield Catholic had three players selected. Midfielders Taylor Arens & Justin Bowenschulte, and forward David Bailey. Glendale and Kickapoo each had two players picked. All were seniors except Arens and Willard defender Jackson Patillo. The only picks from outside the immediate Springfield area were defender Matt Robinson of Carthage and forward Max Duncan of Joplin.

The All-State Soccer teams were announced yesterday and a very good showing for the Ozarks all the way around. Springfield Catholic lead the way with three first team (Justin Bowenschulte, Taylor Arens, and David Bailey), two second team, and two honorable mention selections in class 1. Greenwood’s Chris Aiken was the area’s only other class 1 first team pick as Greenwood had four players picked overall. And Crocker coach Lee Richardson was named public school coach of the year.
In class 2, the public school coach of the year also came to the Ozarks as Bolivar’s Steve Fast nabbed the honor. The Liberators had three players honored with Kyle Slagle and Bradley Stillwagon being named first team.

2:25 - And it’s a final. Catholic knocks off the #1 team in the state 3-0 and moves on to the state championship game tomorrow at 4 o’clock. Awaiting them in the final will be either KC St. Pius X who they defeated in last years third place game, or Whitfield who has won five of the last seven state championships.
1:48 – 3-0 Catholic as Adam Entrup scores in the 69th minute. They’re surely moving on now.

1:17 – Latest report from Catholic/JFK has it 2-0 at the half.
1:13 – Here’s the details on the winning goal. Bradley Stillwagon gets the score in the 93rd minute with a header off a Matt Magana flip throw-in. The Liberators will play at noon tomorrow on the same field against the winner of 21-5 (and defending state champion) St. Dominic and 14-4-1 Helias. Those two teams last met in the 2008 state championship game which St. Dominic won 2-1.

A very busy Thursday night on the volleyball courts and soccer fields of the Ozarks last night. Glendale & Kickapoo renewed their rivalry on the pitch with the Falcons coming out on top 4-1. Bolivar continued their strong play with a 5-1 victory over Branson that features a hat trick from Matt Magana. And Webb City won another nail biter 2-1 over Carl Junction.
Some key volleyball matchups last night highlighted by Republic defeating Mountain Grove in straight sets 25-17, 25-23. Hurley won a thrilling three set clash with Crane. It looked like it would be short night when Hurley took the first set 25-11. But the Lady Pirates rallied to take the second set 27-25. Which set the set for a great final set with Hurley finally finishing it off 25-23. Kaitlin Jaeger notched 13 kills for Webb City as they knocked off Reeds Springs 25-22, 25-17. And Verona dropped Purdy in straight sets 25-18, 25-15 behind Jori Dodson’s 18 kills.
