District Wrestling Results

A great weekend for area teams looking to move on to state.  Ozark sends their entire team, Seneca and Neosho almost do the same, Waynesville has a solid showing in a strong district, and the class 2 district at Monett left all the teams battered.  Here’s the scoop.

CLASS 1

District 2 - Seneca looked to have an easy time with this district and they did winning by over 120 points.  They dominated the lover divisions winning at 103, 112, 119, 125, 130, and 135.  They send on 13 wrestlers to state and should be the team to beat.  Diamond has a respectable showing grabbing two seconds and a third.  We very likely could see Seneca’s Nathan Fortner against Diamond’s Craig Vanlue for the state title at 130.

Springfield Wrestling Tournament results

A great weekend for area teams at the Springfield Holiday Wrestling Tournament as local squads claim the top 3 positions, and Ozarks wrestlers claim the championship in all but 2 weight classes.

Ozark takes the team title with a narrow 454-438 margin over Monett.  But don’t cry for the Cubs as their trio of defending state champions Ethan Davis, Kellen Bounous, and Kyle Meyer were joined on the winners podium by Jantsen Boucher in the 171 division claiming the most individual titles.  The anticipated heavyweight matchup of Lebanon’s Justin Britt and Willard’s Chris McMullin was derailed by Casey Weiner of Kickapoo who defeated McMullin in the semis.  Britt then took the major decision over Weiner to win the class.  Other area class winners were Dmitry Loftis, Sam Perryman, & Zeb Spicer of Ozark; Bobby Adams & Taylor Ball of Willard; Trevor Byrd of Lebanon; and Blayne Shockley of Rolla.

Joplin Globe all-area wrestling

The Joplin Post released their all-area wrestling team yesterday. They named co-coaches of the year and co-co-co-MVPs which was a bit odd, but it’s hard to argue with their choices. Monett’s Daryl Bradley was named on the coaches of the year after leading Monett to the Missouri class 2 state title in his 8th [...]
