2009 Regional Football Preview

“Playoffs?” - Jim Mora

Yes, coach.  We’re talking about the playoffs.  Because they’re here.  Thirty teams from the Ozarks seek the state championship in five different classifications.  Thirty teams are done for the year.  At least nine more schools will start basketball practice after tomorrow night.  Here’s what to watch for.

CLASS 1

  • Lockwood (6-4) at Thayer (8-1)

4/16/09 scores

On a beautiful Ozarks day, the fields were full of all kinds of high school action.  The scoreboard at Catholic was mostly full of zeros as Kendall San Paolo struck out 11 in throwing a one hitter as the Irish beat Reeds Spring 1-0.  Nick Hurt drives in the lone run.  The bases in Sarcoxie were full of Purdy Eagles as they won 19-0 over the Bears.  Mason Roller and Blake Williams homered for the Eagles.  The course at Fremont Hills was full of drama as Glendale freshman Rayvaun Christenson defeated Ozark’s Ben Hogan in a playoff to win the Ozark Invitational.  (Justin Timberlake did not play)  And the soccer fields were full of excitement as Bolivar held off a Nixa comeback from a 4-2 halftime deficit with a 77th minute strike from Sarah Magana to win 5-4.  And those are all facts.  Just in case you think I’m full of it.
