Big matchup tonight for the championship of the Forsyth Tournament as Strafford defeated Blue Eye 4-2.  Rhett Parton tosses a complete game for the win yielding only 5 hits along the way.  Connor Wilson hits a home run to help the cause.

Meanwhile on the soccer pitch, Glendale defeated archrival Kickapoo as Alix Opfer got the game winner.  The Lady Falcons finish second in the Ozark Conference at 8-1 behind Parkview.

And fresh off the presses, I’ve got the final district seeds we’ve been waiting on.  Class 4 district 11 where Branson gets the top seed.  Make sure to check out all the districts here.

It was generally a good night to be a Glendale Falcon.  Glendale secured two conference championships Thursday night as the boys tennis team took the conference title 40-42 over Joplin.  Paul Nahon claimed #1 singles for the Falcons, while Andy Collins & Will Stone took #1 doubles.  On the baseball diamond, Skyler Ladd’s 1 hitter lead the Falcons to a 13-0 win over Joplin and gave Glendale a share of the conference title with Kickapoo as both teams finished the year at 8-1.  And the soccer version of the Lady Falcons defeated Lebanon 3-1 on Senior Night.

Not so much luck on the track for Glendale though as the West Plains boys and Waynesville girls claim titles at the Ozark Conference meet.

History last night in the Blue Eye/Spokane game.  The Bulldogs won 27 to 4 and Blue Eye’s Zach Campbell hit 4 home runs to tie the state record.  The team hit 8 homers which is the third best total in state history.  But the big news is that for Mr. Campbell, that makes 6 consecutive at bats with home runs which smashes the old state record of 4 and ties the national record.  The Bulldogs are scheduled to play at Billings tonight.  We’ll let you know if Zach can keep the streak alive.

And speaking of records, if the stats I have for Fordland’s Tyler Swanson are correct, he’s in line to grab an unbeatable pitching record.  So far this season, 40 innings pitched, 0 earned runs for a 0.00 ERA.  The 40 IP without an earned run is already the 3rd best streak ever.  But the record for ERA is 0.127.  Good luck Tyler.

On the soccer pitch, Rolla & Adrian Pogue’s shutout streak comes to an end at 7 games as Jeff City defeats the Lady Bulldogs 2-1.

And district golf kicked off with Webb City winning the class 3 district 6 meet at Cassville Golf Club by a single stroke over Monett 336-337.  But Monett did bring home the individual medal with Jacob Fair shooting a 73 for the win.

BASEBALL

  • Jasper 7, East Newton 5
    • Jasper: Jesse Hodge – W, 7 IP, 3 ER, 3 hitter, 4 BB, 12 K; Matt Newman – 2 for 3; 2 2B, 3 RBI; Ryan Rector – 2 for 3, 2B, HR, 2 RBI
  • College Heights 5, Southwest 0
  • Cassville 10, Nevada 5
  • Blue Eye 27, Spokane 4

The last I knew, Walnut Grove and Hermitage didn’t have football teams.  But you couldn’t tell it from their score tonight.  Hermitage missed an extra point in dropping a 28-13 decision to Walnut Grove.  And I have an unconfirmed score of Liberal 28, Miller 0.  But they do play football.

Elsewhere, Norwood picked up a big win over class 1 #2 ranked Dora 7-6.  And Strafford used 5 home runs and a Rhett Parton 1 hitter to beat Ash Grove 25-0.  Chris Berry had 2 of the 5 jacks including a grand slam as he drove in 8 runs.

And on the soccer pitch, Glendale’s Emily Cline netted a hat trick as the Lady Falcons ended Joplin’s run of shootout magic with a 6-0 win.

The Spanish may not be perfect, but I’m sure you understand.  Catholic & Ash Grove play a wild one with the Irish scoring 11 runs in the last 2 innings for a 16-14 come from behind win.  Kendall San Paolo had 4 RBI and Kevin Schneider scored 4 runs to lead the Irish.

On a beautiful Ozarks day, the fields were full of all kinds of high school action.  The scoreboard at Catholic was mostly full of zeros as Kendall San Paolo struck out 11 in throwing a one hitter as the Irish beat Reeds Spring 1-0.  Nick Hurt drives in the lone run.  The bases in Sarcoxie were full of Purdy Eagles as they won 19-0 over the Bears.  Mason Roller and Blake Williams homered for the Eagles.  The course at Fremont Hills was full of drama as Glendale freshman Rayvaun Christenson defeated Ozark’s Ben Hogan in a playoff to win the Ozark Invitational.  (Justin Timberlake did not play)  And the soccer fields were full of excitement as Bolivar held off a Nixa comeback from a 4-2 halftime deficit with a 77th minute strike from Sarah Magana to win 5-4.  And those are all facts.  Just in case you think I’m full of it.
