Class 2 state track & field meet day 2

College Heights’ Caleb Hoover was one of the stars of the weekend at the class 2 state track & field meet.  Hoover finished first in the 1600, first in the 3200, fourth in the 800, and was part of the winning 4 X 800 relay team along with Alan Good, Trenton Morris, and Alex Moore.  Hoover helped account for 35 of the Cougars 41 points as they finished third in state.  Strafford also finished in the top 10 at tenth with Tyler Evans winning the shot put, and Dylan Barnum taking second in the 110 hurdles.

2/5/09 scores

Fair Grove continues to roll despite being 2 players down as they win the big matchup with Skyline 68-54.  The Lady Eagles ran up a 14 point lead at the half.  Then held off a Skyline charge in the third period.  The Lady Tigers closed the gap to 5 going into the final quarter, but Fair Grove outscored them by 9 down the stretch for the final margin.  If any doubters were left, this recent stretch since the injuries in which they’ve beaten both Central and now Skyline should have converted them.

The game of the night is on the boys side as Mansfield and Fair Grove go four extra periods to settle their contest.  The Lions Nathan Jones scored 23 and hit 7 threes to help Mansfield outlast the Eagles 82 – 77.  It was inside vs outside with Mansfield tossing in 12 threes on the night to Fair Grove’s 1.  But Justin Cleeton and Matt Loyd provided plenty of punch for the Eagles scoring 23 & 24 pts.  Mansfield rallied from 7 down to start the fourth to send the game to bonus basketball.

Miller’s scoring machine Hannah Wilkerson has the top individual performance as she went for 42 points to lead the Lady Cardinals to a 69-63 win over a good Ash Grove squad.  Honorable mention to Thomas Jefferson’s Alex Oserowsky who had the big double double scoring 23 and grabbing 16 rebounds in the Cavaliers 67-64 loss to Southwest.
