50! Lot’s going on last night but we’ll start with that number. That’s how many points Houston’s Kyle Poynter scored in the Tigers 65-62 loss to Willow Springs. That ties the all-time school scoring record. But Poynter was not able to get a game tying three to go in the final minutes to allow the Bears to leave Houston with the win. Five shots from behind the arc and a 19 for 20 performance from the free throw line highlight Poynter’s night. Four conference championships got wrapped up also. In the marquee matchup, Nixa nipped Branson to win the COC Large and go to 25-1 on the season. Jordan Keeney lead the way with 24 points. Despite losing to Bolivar 72-69, Rogersville still claims the COC Small title via Marshfield’s 69-62 win over Reeds Spring. The Wolves would have claimed a share of the title with a victory. Hillcrest is the undisputed champion of the Ozark Conference with their 67-47 win over Marshfield. And Strafford claims the Mid-Lakes crown by downing Fair Grove 52-46. Verona continues their run of solid play lately winning their Ozark 7 showdown with Exeter 54-42. Jessica Smith had 21 to lead three Lady Wildcats in double figures. That should set up a showdown with Purdy for the league title on the 26th. Parkview gets a big win 67-65 over Glendale. Emily Akins leads four Lady Vikings in double figures. Megan Deines scored 23 for Glendale. Ava gets a good win 58-56 over Blue Eye. And Everton’s Jessica Holland has the big game of the night going for 31 points as the Lady Tigers defeat Hurley 50-46. On the boys side Robbe Ewing’s 28 points leads Stockton over Morrisville 73-70. Shawn Artz had 25 for the Panthers. Rogersville drops a close one in overtime falling 70-65 to Hickman. And the game of the night is a border battle with Bakersfield defeating Yellville-Summit of Arkansas 89-87 in double overtime. Dakota Ellison continues his fantastic year scoring 36 points on 5 of 6 shooting from three point range, and 9 of 10 shooting from the free throw line. Cole Denton also has a huge game with 23 points and 17 boards for the Lions. BASKETBALL GIRLS Newburg Tournament

A couple of rivalry games went different directions last night. Mt. Vernon cruised past Aurora 56-29. The Lady Mountaineers jumped out to a 26-9 halftime lead and added to that as they went along to get the Big 8 victory. While Kickapoo took control of the Ozark Conference race with a 55-50 overtime win over Glendale. Casey Carroll had 20 to lead the Lady Chiefs. The Mid-Lakes girls race stayed wild as Lauren McCurry’s 28 points helped Pleasant Hope get past Fair Grove 49-48. Webb City continued their roll with a 60-53 win over Ozark behind Kaitlin Jaeger’s 24 points. And the big performance of the night goes to Carl Junction’s Lauren McRae who scored 34 points and grabbed 10 rebounds in the Lady Bulldogs 66-34 win over Lamar. BASKETBALL GIRLS Varsity

A very interesting evening of girls basketball last night. Conway already had a couple of good wins on the year. Now they’ve added a great win as they knocked off Fair Grove 47-44. Parkview continues to impress as they win over MacDonald County 73-52 behind Emily Akin’s 25 points. New Covenant’s Charlotte Vernier had the big scoring performance of the night netting 41 as the Lady Warriors downed Niangua 68-33. But it’s Morrisville’s Kasey Painter that had the best game of the evening. She registered a triple double of 20 points, 15 assists, and 13 steals as they defeated Everton 83-49. Now most of you know that Joboo loves me some small school ball. And that I keep an eye out for up & coming talent. With that in mind, I headed to Sarcoxie last night to catch the Everton Lady Tigers and Jessica Holland. She of the triple double to start the season. I arrived a little late and by the time I got settled in, Everton was already down by double digits. But they started to hit some shots, applied the press, and started to chip away at the lead. Holland at 5′ 9″ had a few inches on the Sarcoxie guards and decent speed, allowing her to go inside and outside pretty confidently. Sarcoxie lead 24-18 at the half and I had Holland for 8 points in the time I had been watching. In the second half, foul trouble and an injury to starter Linsey Denney kept Everton from throwing the pressure back on. But sophomore Paige Limpus hit for 9 second half points to help them pull within 2 starting the fourth. In the final frame, Sarcoxie’s solid backcourt took care of the ball, took advantage of the Everton foul trouble, and started penetrating to score. Holland had 9 more in the second half, but the Lady Bears got scoring from 5 different players to finish with the 47-37 win. No seniors on Everton’s squad and there is some potential there. Keep an eye on them as the year moves along, and next year. BASKETBALL BOYS Mansfield Tournament
