Great moment tonight in Morrisville as Hannah Wilkerson becomes the states all time leading scorer. Former record holder Melissa Grider was on hand in the town she spent her first three years playing for to present Wilkerson the game ball after the record breaking point early in the second quarter.  Wilkerson would finish with 32 points as Miller won 75-54.  Congratulations Hannah!

In other games Skyline downs newly state ranked Fair Grove 50-48.  It’s going to be a real dogfight for the Mid-Lakes title.  West Plains continues their strong season with a 48-42 win over Rolla.  And Nixa gets a nice 51-34 win at Branson.  While on the boys side, Dadeville remains undefeated with an impressive 73-55 win over a very good Fair Play squad.

Mt. Vernon wins a great game tonight as they travel to Willard and defeat the Tigers 56-54.  Zack Kleine is the star scoring 32 for the Mountaineers as they get a rod win against a good Willard squad.

On the ladies side, Miller and Ash Grove will meet for the third time in three weeks in the Lady Comet Invitational at Marionville.  Ash Grove overcame a scoreless first quarter and caught Cassville in the fourth to win 48-40.  The Lady Pirates got 25 points from Kaile Weinreis.  While Miller got 38 from Hannah Wilkerson as they defeated Billings 75-53.

2009 Holiday Tournament Week - Day 3

Shocker at Weiser.  It’s no shock that Kickapoo could beat Webb City, but to do it 49-27 by only allowing the Lady Cardinals 5 points in the second half is stunning.  Great defensive effort by Kickapoo and they ran out to a 25-6 first quarter lead.

Meanwhile at the Blue & Gold, Ozark escapes again with a 3 pointer at the buzzer again defeating Strafford 40-37.  Isaiah Monroe hits the dagger tonight as Ozark advances to the Gold championship game.

On a night usually dominated by girls basketball, it was the Hillcrest boys that stole the show upsetting Central at the Pit last night 61-56.  Derek Chaney had 17 to help the Hornets bring Central down to earth after their big win over Rock Bridge Tuesday.  Tied at the end of the third, the Hornets used a 8-1 run to grab the lead for good and take the win over the #1 seed in their district.  Johnny Gray had 19 for Central.

Great action on the girls side also.  I was at the Nixa/Webb City showdown last night.  Webb City was playing their third game in three days and it showed against a Lady Eagle squad that is playing great ball.  Up three at the half, Nixa turned up the defensive pressure coming out of the locker room.  Webb City was able to pull within 1 at 34-33, but a 12-2 run for Nixa opened the game up.  From there, Nixa was content to break the Webb City pressure and live at the foul line finally winning 61-43.  Bethanie Funderburk led Nixa with 19 points.

And in a big Frisco League showdown, state-ranked Laquey held off Richland 71-69 behind 19 points from Emily Murray.
