All the teams for the girls side of the Missouri Challenge haven’t been revealed yet. But the seedings have and the bulls eye is squarely on the back of the Southwest squad. Coach Jenni Hopkins of Hillcrest will take the #1 seeded team into the competition May 29th & 30th and will face off against the eighth seeded Northwest squad in the quarterfinals. St. Louis grads the second seed with Kansas City third. We’ll post the rest of the squads as they become available.

Possibly the stat line of the year last night as Laquey’s Tyler Bock put up 30 points and brought down 20 rebounds in the Lady Hornets 51-45 win over Licking. Laquey goes to 16-1 with the win.

The Lebanon girls win their own tournament with a 57-32 win over Pleasant Hope. Megan Stamm led the way with 21 points. Likewise the Neosho girls take the title in their tournament. Tournament MVP Lorelei Snow scored 21 in their 51-37 defeat of Rogers, AR.

Champions crowned tonight, Eminence wins the Cabool Holiday Tournament 59-49 over Thayer, Blue Eye takes the boys half of the Walnut Grove Holiday Classic 70-49 over Morrisville, while Couch downs Exeter 43-38 despite 24 pts from Whitney Edie to win the girls side. But Kickapoo comes up one game short falling to Lee’s Summit West 75-63 in the finals of the William Jewell Tournament Cardinal Division. The 35 points of West’s Mizzou signee Mike Dixon relegated the Chiefs to second.

The Missouri finalists for the Wendy’s High School Heisman Award have been named and the Ozarks are represented well. For those of you not familiar with the High School Heisman, it’s an award given annually to 1 male and 1 female athlete for excellence in academics, athletics, and community/school leadership. The Ozarks has a strong connection to the award as the first female winner in 1994 was Trisha Perry from Mansfield. 10 boys and 10 girls from across the state have been selected for consideration as the 2008 state winner.
