Great moment tonight in Morrisville as Hannah Wilkerson becomes the states all time leading scorer. Former record holder Melissa Grider was on hand in the town she spent her first three years playing for to present Wilkerson the game ball after the record breaking point early in the second quarter.  Wilkerson would finish with 32 points as Miller won 75-54.  Congratulations Hannah!

In other games Skyline downs newly state ranked Fair Grove 50-48.  It’s going to be a real dogfight for the Mid-Lakes title.  West Plains continues their strong season with a 48-42 win over Rolla.  And Nixa gets a nice 51-34 win at Branson.  While on the boys side, Dadeville remains undefeated with an impressive 73-55 win over a very good Fair Play squad.

Monday district volleyball update

Night one of district volleyball saw two big upsets, both in the same district.  Class 1 district 8 at Miller featured #6 McAuley dropping #3 Greenfield in straight sets.  But that wasn’t enough as #7 Everton knocked of #2 Golden City, also in straight sets.  Tonight the two will meet with a place in the district title game on the line.  Other than a number of #5/#4 mild upsets, the seedings held setting up some great action for tonight.  Most districts will be settled tonight so get out & catch it.

CLASS 1

District 5 at Winona

  • #4 Bunker 2, #5 Southern 0
  • #3 Winona 2, #6 Koshkonong 0

Class 3 volleyball preview

Five different class 3 teams saw time in the state’s top 10 in 2008.  Mountain Grove, Mt. Vernon, Reeds Spring, Republic, and Rogersville all were recognized.  And East Newton finished the season 27-4-1.  It culminated with Rogersville advancing all the way to the championship match before finally falling to KC O’Hara in two games.

A lot of talent has moved on from those teams.  The result is that some new faces will make an impact in 2009, but some of the same teams will be heard from again.  And the potential for a slightly deeper run in the postseason exists for at least one squad.
