A big volleyball matchup last night as class 2 state ranked Ash Grove and Fair Grove met.  Ash Grove has been present in the top 10 all year while Fair Grove has just moved up in the last two weeks.  But it was the Lady Eagles coming out on top 2-1 as they won the last two sets after dropping the first.  Kayla Kepler lead the Fair Grove offense with 17 assists.  And Branson gets a big win as they down state ranked Republic 2-1.  The Lady Pirates also dropped the first set but rallied behind Cailynn Hayter’s 29 assists on the night.

Throughout the course of the girls golf season, the Kickapoo Lady Chiefs lost some of their aura.  Their run of tournament wins was stopped and they were defeated in a handful of events.  But now, it’s time for districts.  And Monday Kickapoo was again 10 feet tall & bulletproof as they won their district by 17 strokes over second place finisher Hillcrest.  Two Lady Chiefs finished in the top 5 including Meg Alumno who took top overall honors with a 76, just edging Republic’s Payton Rayl by one stroke.  Chelsea Damer took third with a 78 to lead three Joplin state qualifiers.  Hillcrest also qualified three for state which will be held Oct 19 & 20.

Two big matchups on the volleyball courts last night.  State ranked Glendale hosted an excellent Webb City team and their experience won the day as Glendale took it in straight sets.  Olivia Brand did a little bit of everything but her 6 blocks really changed the complexion of the contest.  Kaitlin Jaeger had 10 kills and 3 blocks of her own, but Glendale’s strong defense kept the Cardinals from finding a real offensive rhythm as they fall 25-20, 25-23.  And state ranked Osceola took a step up in class as they took on El Dorado Springs in a 3 set dandy.  The first set was tremendous with the Lady Indians prevailing finally 30-28.  El Do jumped out early in the second set and didn’t look back winning 25-15.  And in the deciding third set it was a battle all the way before the Volley Dogs took it & the match 25-23.

Boys soccer got started last night with a renewal of the Greenwood/New Covenant rivalry.  The Warriors struck first on a first half goal from Tanner Stever.  But both Stewart Beezley & Chris Aiken would find the net before the half to make it 2-1 Greenwood.  In the second half, Beezley & Aiken both struck again as the Bluejays had a 32-8 edge in shots and Greenwood prevailed 5-0.

We also had a premier matchup on the volleyball court last night as class 3 #2 Rogersville took on Kickapoo.  And the Lady Chiefs looked on target for a good year dispatching last years state runner-up in straight sets 25-15, 25-20.

And finally a great one on the diamond last night as Walnut Grove outlasted Humansville 1-0 in 12 innings.  Lady Tiger hurler Hannah Harman fanned 17 Humansville batters in going the distance for the win.
