Some great matchups of top level teams last night. Starting on the girls side with Mt. Vernon traveling to Stockton. The Lady Tigers were on a roll coming into this game having beaten Skyline handily. But it wasn’t to be as the Lady Mountaineers take the 60-43 road win.
On the boys side, great finishes in a number of important games. Spokane knocked off Strafford 47-45 despite Conner Wilson’s 25 points. Jeremy Dresslaer scored 32 to lead Clever to a 64-59 win over Pleasant Hope. In a matchup of Blue and Gold division winners, Branson defeats Ozark 73-60. Avery Dingman had 29 for the Pirates. A rising Willard team defeats Webb City 50-49. And Neosho overcame a 22-4 deficit to rally and defeat Republic in overtime 58-56 as Corey Crandall hit 2 free throws with 4.5 seconds left for the winning margin.
Finally, on the wrestling mat, Waynesville gets a big win defeating state ranked Rolla 33-27. And in a clash of state ranked teams, it was no contest as #1 Neosho crushed #8 Carl Junction 67-9.

Rounding out the top three was Hermitage’s Brent Collins, the top finisher for the Hornets as they took fifth overall in team competition.

Not much in the way of team results from Saturday’s class 1 state track & field meet. Only one top 10 finish on both the boys & girls side. Both the Liberal girls and New Covenant boys finished in sixth place overall. But some exciting individual event titles highlighted by New Covenent’s boys 4 X 400 relay team of Daniel Baird, Luke Letsinger, Jeremy Weimer, and Caleb Scott. The boys discus was a strong event for the Ozarks with three of the top five finishers calling SW Mo home. Including state champion Merrit Crawford of Osceola, runner-up Donnie Smith of Crocker, and fifth place Garrett Gladden of Everton.
On the girls side a pair of sophomores claimed state titles. Halfway’s Olivia Francka completed a good weekend by winning the 1600, and Sonya Kilongkilong (my favorite name in the Ozarks) of McAuley won the 400.

Liberal shares eighth place with four other teams as Kylie Brown took fourth in the 3200 and their 4X800 relay team took eighth.
