3/6/10 District Update

On on the final night of class 1, 2, & 3 district competition, four schools take home both boys and girls championships.  Three of those accomplished the feat on their home court.  Dora in class 1, Mt. Vernon and Stockton in class 3.  Ava pulls off the district double at Cabool.  The Thayer girls and Seymour boys need overtime to win their district finals.  The Seymour boys and the Dora girls beat both the #1 & #2 seeds in their districts to win their championships.  And the Stockton boys are the lowest seed to win a district coming from the #5 spot.

3/5/10 District Update

Two great matchups of state ranked teams on the girls side last night.  And the headliner lived up to the hype in Sarcoxie.  Purdy and Miller went to overtime for the second time this season with Purdy’s Addy Roller hitting a late three to get it there.  But in the extra period, Miller hit their free throws down the stretch to take their second consecutive district title game from the Lady Eagles 62-60.  Hannah Wilkerson scored 43 to lead Miller into the sectional rematch with reigning state champion Sparta.  And in Aurora, state ranked Verona and Walnut Grove matched up for the title with the Lady Wildcats grabbing the prize 58-47.

On the boys side, at matchup of state ranked class 1 teams went to Dadeville as they won their district with a 81-50 defeat of Fair Play.  They’ll advance to face Chadwick in a rematch of last years sectional game, as the Cardinals won the Aurora district 71-63 over Exeter.

3/2/10 District Update

After an opening two days that saw few real upsets, Tuesday night made up for it in a big way.  Leading the way was the boys side of the class 3 district at Stockton where all the lower seeds won including a 80-63 win by #8 seed Warsaw over top seed El Dorado Springs.  Also winning were #7 seed Skyline, #6 Morrisville, and #5 Stockton.  In Cabool, the host team, seeded second, was eliminated by the seventh seed Licking 66-59.  And in Sarcoxie, #6 Purdy knocks off #3 Greenfield 68-49.

The upsets weren’t limited to the boys side either.  In Dora, the fourth seeded host squad shockingly eliminated #1 Eminence 56-52.  After being in and out of the state rankings most of the year, the Lady Redwings looked to not be challenged until the championship game.  But the Lady Falcons send them home early and claim a spot in Saturday’s championship against Bakersfield.
