A few contests in the Ozarks yesterday. Greenwood broke in their newly named Greenwood Stadium Field tonight with a match against Springfield Central. The Bulldogs wanted nothing to do with making it a good home opener for Greenwood though as Jordan Salvato scored two goals and assisted on a third to give the visitors a 3-0 win.
And at Fremont Hills, Kickapoo won the team title at the 13 team Ozark Invitational by four strokes over Republic. Payton Rayl did claim medalist honors for the Lady Tigers though shooting an 84.

Your customary light Wednesday night scores. But the annual Jim Pearson invitational was held yesterday at Horton Smith in Springfield. Mt. Vernon’s Jenna Brewer repeated as individual champion. But it was Joplin topping traditional powers Mt. Vernon and defending champion Kickapoo for the title. The Lady Eagles shot a 355, seven stroke on top of second place Hillcrest.
And a big win for the Camdenton Lakers on the volleyball court as they defeated Kickapoo 2-1 showing that they are a legitimate force in the OC. They dropped the first set 25-22. But rallied to win the next two 25-23 and 25-14 to take the match.

The Cassville volleyball team at attention for the national anthem.
Volleyball season is up & running now. And I attended a very entertaining match last night as McDonald County traveled to Cassville. The home team got out to a good start and took the lead early in the first set. But after a timeout, the Lady Mustangs rallied behind the play of Ryan Parsons to take it 25-17. The second set was a reversal as Cassville controlled play and the Ladycats Marti Richmiller started to assert herself. Richmiller would finish with 12 kills & 9 assists and Cassville took the second set 25-17. The final set was back & forth all the way. Cassville’s Emily Orrell made some key digs to overcome some unforced errors on Cassville’s side. But in the end, Parsons’ tough serving (she would finish with 5 aces) gave McDonald County just enough margin to win the third set 25-22 & take the match. Both teams looked a little rough, but all in all, it was a good match to start the season. Neither side will be an easy match for any team.
Now, onto the days scores.
